Black Ops 6 Fans Hate The Inflated Replacer Skin Cost

Black Ops 6 Fans Hate The Inflated Replacer Skin Cost

Key Takeaways

  • Black Ops 6’s The Replacer bundle is already causing frustration among the COD community.
  • To get both variants, it costs $50 in real-life money, as you need to buy two separate bundles.
  • Apparently, you’ll also have to buy one pack before the other in order to get both skins.

Well, that didn’t take long.

Call of Duty Black Ops 6 hasn’t even been out for an entire month, and we already have our first skin-related controversy. As it turns out, COD fans aren’t too pleased with being double charged to access a variant of The Replacer operator skin.

The Replacer Will Replace Your Wallet

For background, Activision announced that The Replacer, a popular figure in Black Ops advertisements dating back to the 2010s, would be a purchaseable operator. The Replacer bundle, featuring the real likeness of Peter Stormare, complete with some extras, was released on Friday.

The cost? 2,400 COD points, or the equivalent of $19.99 in USD.

Sounds fairly tame enough when compared to other Call of Duty skins, including previous released bundles for the likes of Mobile Suit Gundam, among other collaborations.

Except, to get the BlackCell variant of The Replacer, one must also upgrade their Battle Pass to the Season 01 BlackCell pass. The cost? An additional $29.99 in real-life dollars. The BlackCell variant is largely a color swap, albeit a cool one at that.

Oh, and there’s a twist. As relayed by Game Rant, in order to have access to the BlackCell variant of The Replacer, one must first purchase the BlackCell pass, then purchase The Replacer bundle. It reportedly won’t unlock the variant if you do the opposite.

Naturally, COD fans are pretty upset about this development, particularly as Treyarch had announced ahead of launch that previous skins wouldn’t carry forward so that players could start fresh. But less than a month in, the game is already being littered with non-era-specific skins, making the choice all the more confusing.

“COD MTX keeps being hilariously unappealing (despite looking pretty cool),” one user wrote in part, adding, “I get that people like them anyway, and I have no problem with that, but for me, it’s another reason to buy the game and nothing else. I’ll gladly spend on other games that respect me as a customer.”

Of course, none of this is forced, but it still does suck for those that did actually buy it, only to find out that they’re missing a piece. “Here’s the thing…you don’t actually ‘have to’ buy either,” another Redditor commented.

Another commenter hit COD fans with a bit of nostalgia towards previous gaming generations, writing, “Remember when you played the games to unlock stuff? Man, those were the days, right?”

Unfortunately, this won’t be the first or last skin-related controversy. With the game set to receive months of support, more and more collaborations will be released, meaning more and more opportunities to potentially double charge. It’s just unfortunate it happened so early.
