A good gun can get you a long way in Stalker 2, and even more so if it’s upgraded for better performance. Players can find a lot of unique weapons out in the Zone, and if you’re looking for a good assault rifle early on, then the Drowned should be on your list of options.




The Drowned is a unique AK rifle that players can stumble upon fairly early on. It’s not terribly hard to find, but it can also be easy to miss. If you’re looking for a variant of one of the best early weapons in Stalker 2, make sure to grab this rifle when you get the chance.

Budmo is a simple side quest in Stalker 2, but it also serves as a test on how much of a true Stalker players are.

The Drowned is quite literally just lying around. You can find it outside the Slag Heap in the Garbage region, which you can access after finishing the Behind Seven Seals mission. You can try breaking through the Ward’s blockade west of Zalissya, but you’re going to have a hard time without good equipment like upgraded armor or Valik Lummox’s scoped AK.


To get the Drowned, all you have to do is pick it up. It’s leaning against a chunk of concrete in the pond south of the Slag Heap. It’s right near the dirt road leading to the Loner town, and there should be another Stalker named Boo who’s crying for help once you get there.

Boo is the rightful owner of the Drowned, and according to him, he accidentally dropped his gun. As much as he loves his rifle, it doesn’t seem like he loves it enough to walk a few feet to get it. If you talk to him before picking up the gun, he’ll ask you to retrieve it for him. If you picked the gun up before speaking to Boo, he’ll ask you to give it back. Returning the Drowned to him offers no immediate benefit, and while it’s unknown if this gives any lasting repercussions, the best course of action here is to just keep the gun for yourself.

make money quickly in

or have enough dosh to spare for repairs.


Is The Drowned Any Good?

The Drowned is a modified AKM-74S assault rifle that comes with a grenade launcher. The latter uses VOG-25 grenades, which can be found very rarely throughout the zone. Some merchants may have some for sale, but don’t count on it.

Perhaps the more interesting upgrade that the Drowned has over other AKM-74S rifles is its taped magazines. Instead of just discarding a used mag and slapping on a new one, Skif will actually flip the mags and insert the one with fresh ammo in it. After using that one, he’ll throw the taped magazine bundle away and insert a new one. This means that every other reload with the Drowned will be faster than normal. Apart from these, the Drowned is much like most other AKM-74S rifles.
