Kevin Feige Finally Has Good Blade MCU News After the Latest Delay
The Blade MCU release date delay had some fans worried the project would be canceled, and Marvel Studios’ Kevin Feige addressed those concerns.
During a live virtual appearance at the Disney APAC Content Showcase (via Deadline), Feige commented on the MCU’s upcoming films, including The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Thunderbolts*. Feige also echoed previous comments teasing the X-Men in the MCU after Avengers: Secret Wars. Per the Marvel Studios boss, fans will see familiar X-Men “players” leading up to Avengers: Secret Wars, which will lead to a “new age of Mutants.”
I think you will see that continue in our next few movies with some X-Men players that you might recognize. Right after that, the whole story of
Secret Wars
really leads us into a new age of mutants and of the X-Men. Again, [it’s] one of those dreams come true. We finally have the X-Men back.
Notable scooper MyTimeToShineHello responded to Feige’s comments by offering spoilers on how the X-Men will join the MCU. According to MyTimeToShineHello, Secret Wars will create a new universe where mutants and the X-Men have always existed. This information remains unconfirmed by official sources, but some fans interpret Feige’s comments as a hint that Avengers: Secret Wars will indeed reboot the MCU as a means of introducing mutants and the Fantastic Four.
This could potentially solve a big MCU problem with the X-Men. The persecution of mutants is a key storyline in Marvel Comics, with many people fearing and/or hating them. While superheroes like Captain America are mostly given a break because their powers were bestowed upon them through science, mutants are targeted because they are born with mutations and many of them don’t even resemble humans. The X-Men often conflict with Magneto because of their differing views on how to combat this persecution, with Magento’s actions shaped by his experience as a Holocaust survivor.
In other words, the X-Men and other mutants are hard to miss and it would be difficult to explain why they were never seen or mentioned in the MCU. Fans know Marvel Studios only gained the screen rights to the X-Men after Disney acquired 20th Century Fox, but an in-universe explanation for the absence of mutants is needed. Time will tell if an MCU reboot after Avengers: Secret Wars will provide the answer. Then again, Ms. Marvel teased mutants existing in the MCU, so many Marvel Studios will just say they’re only now emerging.
Avengers: Secret Wars is scheduled to be released in theaters on May 7, 2027.
Avengers: Secret Wars is the sixth Avengers film and takes place during phase six of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe. The film will see several heroes from the prior phases return and battle against a cosmic threat to rival Thanos and borrow elements of the Marvel Comics event of the same name.
