An apparent bug in the PlayStation 5 Pro-enhanced version of Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is making Tifa Lockhart appear as though she’s balding. Tifa is among the more popular heroes in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, but her newly augmented appearance is causing some derisive criticism from the Final Fantasy fan base.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth originally launched exclusively on the PlayStation 5 in late February 2024. In early November, Sony rolled out its mid-generation console, the PlayStation 5 Pro, which offers big upgrades to systems like memory, rendering, and storage space over the original PlayStation 5. More than 50 games were enhanced for performance on PS5 Pro at the console’s launch, with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth being among that number.

The PS5 Pro-optimized Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth includes great enhancements and features, including a new Versatility Mode that combines the original Performance mode’s 60 FPS frame rate with resolution and rendering that matches the game’s Graphics Mode. Still, some players, like Reddit user Ok_Faithlessness4288, have pointed out a glaring flaw in Tifa’s design in the enhanced version, as the scalp on the back of her head is visible through her flowing locks during several scenes, giving her the appearance of being partially bald. The player has played through scenes from the game in Performance and Graphics modes on the PS5 Pro, but only the enhanced Versatility Mode is producing the anomalous balding effect.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is Having Problems on PS5 Pro
Some fans have decided to address Tifa’s clearly unintentional new look with humor. Several have joked that Tifa’s story in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is a particularly stressful one, and excessive amounts of stress can contribute to hair loss. Others have suggested that her unusual hairline is a result of Mako poisoning.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is not the only game to experience issues with its enhanced version of the PlayStation 5 Pro. Bloober Team recently had to release a patch to fix graphical issues with Silent Hill 2 Remake‘s PS5 Pro-enhanced version following fan complaints that the enhanced version was actually performing worse than the original modes on PlayStation 5. Additionally, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor initially suffered some visual issues like flickering textures and missing lighting elements on PS5 Pro despite being one of the first games announced to be getting a PS5 Pro-enhanced version. Publisher EA reported on November 18 that it was actively exploring the cause of these issues in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
