One Leaked Dragon’s Dogma 2 Feature Would Be a Game-Changer

Much has happened in Dragon’s Dogma 2’s first year. The initial hype on social media that bolstered the game’s launch has died down, and opinions are now split on whether Dragon’s Dogma 2‘s adventurous strengths redeem it, or whether its mounting flaws render it disappointing. DD2’s rocky performance on all platforms has been partially smoothed over, though only the PS5 Pro and top-end gaming PCs can make the game look like it was always meant to. Even Dragon’s Dogma creator and director Hideaki Itsuno has left Capcom, but he may have stuck around long enough to leave Dragon’s Dogma 2 in good hands.

DLC has long been suspected for Dragon’s Dogma 2 thanks to the successful Dark Arisen expansion for Dragon’s Dogma 1, and new evidence for it was recently uncovered. Posted on the Dragon’s Dogma subreddit, strings datamined from a pre-Denuvo DD2 copy were observed to either be cut content or things planned for the game’s future. The Dragon’s Dogma series is known for its strong gameplay features, dynamic Pawn AI and monster interactivity being foremost among them, but a Dragon’s Dogma 2 equipped with this leaked content could be looking at a second chance at life.

Rumor: Major New Dragon’s Dogma 2 Feature Possibly Leaked

A Dragon’s Dogma 2 datamine uncovers an exciting feature that will possibly be added to Capcom’s hit action RPG in the future.

Dragon’s Dogma 2’s Content Leak, Explained

There were three main takeaways from the datamine, and they can be considered in ascending levels of impact. A boss rush mode would fit well in Dragon’s Dogma 2 given its typical gameplay, but unless it has some new fights, it’s just what players are normally doing with the traveling and environmental interactions cut out. The Tower of the New Moon sounds like it could be Dragon’s Dogma 2’s answer to Dark Arisen’s optional Bitterblack Isle dungeon, and could finally implement a trip to the moon like the first game had planned.

Multiplayer Is The Most Surprising Leaked Dragon’s Dogma 2 Feature

However, the third leaked feature stands head and shoulders above the rest. In terms of sheer transformative potential, nothing else can beat adding multiplayer to Dragon’s Dogma. The series was predicated on being a smooth single-player experience, with Pawns intended to act as emergent, competent allies to give the illusion of a classic fantasy adventuring party despite only one human being present. But as the Dragon’s Dogma Online MMO showed, designing for Pawns to interact with the main Arisen means that two Arisen, or human-controlled Pawns, are just as feasible and potentially even more fun.

Adding Multiplayer To Dragon’s Dogma 2 Would Change The Whole Experience

It must be repeated that it’s unclear if multiplayer in Dragon’s Dogma 2 is a scrapped idea or intended for a major update, and that being the latter could limit it to the aforementioned Tower of the New Moon. Still, regardless of whether Dragon’s Dogma 2 receives open-world multiplayer, a co-op oriented dungeon with optional single-player, or nothing at all, multiplayer is one of the biggest game-changers this title could enjoy. The successful implementation of online co-op could not only define DD2’s legacy, it could potentially turn the whole series in a new direction.

Multiplayer AAA Fantasy Is In Hot Demand, And Dragon’s Dogma 2 Could Provide

As a mechanics-rich fantasy adventure, Dragon’s Dogma already occupies the same mind space as Dark Souls and The Elder Scrolls, where multiplayer is desired enough that any absence or lackluster implementation of it already has a chance to be modded in by fans. Even if it’s just for one DLC mega-dungeon, Dragon’s Dogma 2 can let players explore together, gather treasure and equipment, and coordinate while fighting huge monsters with DD2’s many different Vocations. It might not be guaranteed yet, but multiplayer would be the perfect addition to bring Dragon’s Dogma 2 back into the public eye.
