Since the beginning, the Dragon Age series has been stories about making hard choices. Dragon Age: The Veilguard is no exception, and one of the first choices has to do with the mayor of D’Meta’s Crossing, who gave up his town to the blight.
When you meet the mayor in Dragon Age: The Veilguard, he’s being held by the blight that he helped unleash. You can choose to save him from this fate or leave him there, which has immediate consequences with your current companions. If you leave him, you’ll also unlock this side quest, “A Growing Corruption.”

Where to Find the Blight Boils
At some point after the Siege of Weisshaupt, you’ll see three exclamation points on the map when you enter Arlathan Forest. Visiting any of the three points and interacting with what you find will start “A Growing Corruption.” Still, the point that makes the most sense is the one closest to the Veil Jumpers base.
When you visit the first location, you’ll see a large blight growth protected by a single boil. The boil may look dark when you first spot it, but you’ll see the glowing section if you walk around to the other side. Once you destroy it, you can destroy some of the blight growth, enough to investigate what’s left and inspect a body hidden in the blight.
The quest marker will then point you to a trail of blood and blight that leads to the second blight growth. You’ll encounter a few darkspawn surrounding it, but nothing too dangerous. To expose this growth, you need to destroy a blight boil on the west wall and a boil on the ground you need to hit from the south side. Inspect the concealed body to continue.
The third growth is on the beach by the Ancient Aqueduct. Take out a few more ghouls, then destroy the glowing boils that are on the growth itself. Once you destroy enough, you can break open the growth and inspect a third body.

The following rogue skills in Dragon Age: The Veilguard inflict a tremendous amount of damage.
How to Beat the Blighted Mayor
You can inspect the three blight growths in any order, but all three lead to a fourth body in the Riverside Ruins area. Unlike the first three, this body is in a pool of blight, and there are no blight growths nearby. As soon as you inspect it, the Blighted Mayor will appear and attack.
The Blighted Mayor counts as a level 37 Greater Hurlock. He has the traits Frenzy and Colossal, and like other darkspawn, he’s vulnerable to fire but resists necrotic damage. A hurlock spiker and several ghouls will also appear to back the mayor up.
- Focus on the two blight boils that appear when the mayor does. The ghouls will keep respawning until you do.
- Remember that heavy attacks do extra damage against armor.
- The Blighted Mayor only has melee attacks. Bring along a warrior companion for him to focus on, and you should have plenty of room you can use to hit him.
The quest ends when you finish off the Mayor. Your rewards include 160 XP, 200 gold, 5 Vhenadahl’s Tears, +50 Grey Wardens Strength, and +50 Veil Jumpers Strength.
