Cyberpunk 2077 Would Be Shooting Itself in the Foot Without a PS5 Pro Patch

Cyberpunk 2077 Would Be Shooting Itself in the Foot Without a PS5 Pro Patch

Cyberpunk 2077 has come a long way since its initial launch back in 2020. Since then, CD Projekt Red’s dystopian RPG has become a visual powerhouse with a gripping story set against the backdrop of Night City. With the addition of its Phantom LIbery DLC, Cyberpunk 2077 has proven itself as a worthy title in the genre, but the possibility of it getting a PS5 Pro enhancement may be small, according to developers.

Addressing a fan on X, CD Projekt Red confirmed via Cyberpunk 2077‘s official account that there are currently no plans for a PS5 Pro upgrade. With the newly released PS5 Pro providing players with more powerful hardware, no upcoming patch for Cyberpunk 2077 could ultimately be a misstep on CD Projekt Red’s part. Many titles have jumped at the chance to showcase what Sony’s upgraded console is capable of, and Cyberpunk 2077 would be a perfect game to demonstrate the PS5 Pro’s various specs.

CD Projekt Red Not Having Any Plans For a Cyberpunk 2077 PS5 Pro Patch is Confusing

An Eye-Catching Game Begging to Be Enhanced

Since Cyberpunk 2077 was able to rise from the ashes of its notoriously rocky launch, the game’s visuals have become one of its defining features. The sprawling metropolis of Night City is the beating heart of Cyberpunk 2077, and every corner is filled with fantastic visuals that cause each street to immerse players even further into the game’s world. Playing the game with as powerful hardware as possible really makes the appearance of the game truly pop, which would make one think a PS5 Pro upgrade is a given. In the confirmation of no such patch, CD Projekt Red didn’t give any reasoning as to why the studio decided to forego an upgrade, keeping the response short and to the point.

While the PS5 Pro has enhanced many games, other titles, like
Black Ops 6
and
Alan Wake 2
, have been experiencing issues on the new console.

Bringing Cyberpunk 2077’s Visuals to the Next Level

Even before Cyberpunk 2077 received its 2.0 update and the Phantom Liberty DLC, a huge selling point of the game was how impressive it looked. For CD Projekt Red to make that such a focus of its marketing, it’s shocking that the developers wouldn’t want to upgrade these features even more. While not every game has stuck the landing with its PS5 Pro version, like Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Cyberpunk 2077 seems like one of the most obvious choices to represent the power of the console. While missing such a clear opportunity is shocking, there may hopefully be a good reason for this omission.

  • 4K and 8K resolution support

Highly-Anticipated Follow-Ups

While the news of no plans for a PS5 Pro patch is disappointing for some, there is at least the bright side of knowing that CD Projekt Red is currently working on two hugely anticipated projects. The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel, codenamed Project Orion, are both in development, which is undoubtedly taking up much of the studio’s time. A PS5 Pro version may simply not be a top priority for CD Projekt Red, and that would be understandable. Two huge sequels on the horizon would clearly be a higher priority than an enhancement.

While there isn’t much known about Project Orion, it’s likely that CD Projekt Red wants to be as diligent as possible with its production in order to bypass the controversy of its predecessor’s launch state. Yes, no PS5 Pro upgrade seems like the wrong choice right now, but it hopefully means that CD Projekt Red is making a wiser decision in order to ensure the success of its upcoming projects.
