For years, the Battlefield and Call of Duty franchises have been the biggest names in the FPS genre. As such, they have also built a pretty long and substantial competition, with each entry being constantly compared to the other. With the success of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and the faltering of Battlefield 2042, that competition has only gotten fiercer. And since Dice may want to deliver something truly groundbreaking with the next Battlefield, it might actually want to take some notes from Treyarch and Raven Software.
Specifically, the next Battlefield may want to attempt to emulate Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s Hunting Season campaign mission. That mission broke new ground when it came to Call of Duty campaigns, with many feeling like it was a true standout. Because of that, it would only make sense that the concept would be further expanded upon in future titles. Even though Call of Duty may have some big plans for it, the concept feels tailor-made for the Battlefield franchise.

Black Ops 6’s Campaign Broke New Ground
While many of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6‘s campaign missions are relatively standard affairs, its Hunting Season mission was a fantastic breath of fresh air. In this mission, players are brought to an Iraqi desert and given pretty much free rein to explore it however they would like. They must find and destroy three different Scud Launchers while also discovering secrets, clearing enemy camps, and completing all sorts of different bonus objectives. It may be the closest that Call of Duty has come to embracing the open-world concept, and because of that, players seem to be loving it.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 may have dabbled in a similar concept, but the way Black Ops 6 has implemented it is truly a game-changer. It seamlessly combined both versions of the franchise’s campaign missions for an experience that many will not soon forget. And while it will be interesting to see just how future Call of Duty titles expand upon the concept, it may have actually shown Battlefield exactly what it needs to do with its own campaign.
Battlefield Can Take That Concept and Run With It
Unlike Call of Duty, Battlefield has made a name for itself with its massive multiplayer maps. Players spend hours driving tanks around huge environments, destroying much of their surroundings, and doing everything they can to root out the enemy. This has been the gameplay loop forever, and the next Battlefield will likely not change that. Because of that, it feels like Battlefield may already have the makings of its own Hunting Season.
The next Battlefield‘s campaign could be filled to the brim with these open-world missions for players to complete. They could be put into a high-stakes war zone with a main task to complete, and the map could also have countless other objectives to discover. With the destruction and map size the franchise is already known for, this experience could lead to an extremely memorable and exciting campaign. As long as the actual story is well-written, players may never want to leave.
Black Ops 6‘s Hunting Season was a fantastic addition to the formula, and hopefully, Battlefield ends up taking notes from it. After Battlefield 2042, this next chapter really needs to come out of the gates swinging with its multiplayer and single-player modes. So, it seems like the perfect time to fully embrace what the franchise is known for while emulating its primary competitor in the process. Not only would that help it make a name for itself, but it could also lead to something truly unforgettable.
