  • More housing details are expected in early 2025.

World of Warcraft just revealed some key details about its upcoming player housing feature, including that it will be a departure from the Garrisons system from Warlords of Draenor. Fans can expect to learn more about this evergreen World of Warcraft feature in early 2025.

During the recent Warcraft Direct, World of Warcraft revealed that player housing was finally coming to the game. While there is little information about what this new system will entail, updates to the World of Warcraft roadmap indicate player housing may arrive before the end of next year.

While not much is known about World of Warcraft: Midnight’s Player Housing, the feature may be exactly what Azeroth has been looking for.

Now, World of Warcraft has revealed the first few details about player housing. At the beginning of a recent interview with Taliesin of WoW content creator duo Taliesin & Evitel, Ion Hazzikostas confirmed that this feature would not simply be a new version of Garrisons – the base-building mechanic from World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor. “[Garrisons] were never aiming to be housing,” he said. “They were a riff on the Warcraft base fantasy.” On the other hand, according to Hazzikostas, player housing will not have any player power attached to it and will encourage social interaction, rather than discourage it as Garrisons did.

World of Warcraft Player Housing Details

  • An evergreen feature coming in Midnight that will continue to receive support after the expansion.
  • Will not have player power attached to them.
  • Designed to be a social feature, rather than the asocial Garrisons system.
  • Will have more housing designs than the Stormwind style shown in World of Warcraft‘s teaser.
  • More info coming early 2025.

While he could not provide many additional details, he also confirmed there will be more types of houses than the Stormind-esque home shown in the recent teaser trailer. Beyond this, he also pointed out that Midnight would only be the beginning for player housing. “[Housing] will be the beginning of a long arc of an evolving feature, and not just a one-off, single-expansion feature.” World of Warcraft executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale corroborated this in an interview with The Daily Star, saying player housing would be a journey for “the next couple of decades” and revealing that an entire team had been built to support the feature.

It seems fans are unlikely to get any further details about player housing in World of Warcraft at the moment, but they won’t need to wait long to learn more. Hazzikostas said there are plans to share more in early 2025, so fans will likely get a first look at player housing not long after the new year. Considering the feature is seemingly arriving before the end of 2025, by this time next year, fans may be decorating their very own homes within World of Warcraft.
