What Was The Last Game Released On The PS Vita?

When it comes to the pantheon of beloved portable consoles, the PS Vita sits in a bit of a weird place. It was a fun, genuinely inventive console, though just got no support from Sony, especially internationally. That makes it even crueler after the strong start it got.

The Vita is home to some great games; here are some of the best of all time.

After a powerful launch line-up, the games just dwindled past the initial ones in development, especially as Sony pivoted to the PS4 instead. Plenty of the Vita’s games were eventually ported to the PS4 as well, though lacked some of what made them so special in a portable form. Let’s take a look at some of those games now, and just how many this poor console got.

How Many Games Were Released On The PS Vita?

Actually calculating the exact number of games on the PS Vita is a bit difficult. Many of them are exclusive to Japan, but some were also exclusive to certain storefronts. Add to that the confusion with the PS Vita store being shut down, then opened again, then the delays and uncertainty in game classification, and it gets a bit hard to track.

So with all of those caveats out of the way, let’s deduce an approximate number. In total, the PS Vita has somewhere around 1800 games, with a decent few games still launching past the official shut-down date. This number jumps much higher when you account for the various emulated games on the platform from the PSP and PS1 as well.

When Was The Last Game Released For The PS Vita?

This is a tad more complex because of the shut-down of the digital storefront on the PS Vita. Or rather, the lack of shut-down. While the storefront was originally planned to cease entirely in April 2021, enough backlash was generated that thet storefront of the PS Vita is still operating to this day. Though that does come with a caveat.

No more games can be added to the digital store, with the deadline on that being July 2021. The final games then that were released on the PS Vita were Brotherhood United, Killer Dolls United, Witchcrafty, Mind Maze, Ultra Mission, And Russian Subway Dogs. All wonderful small-scale games.

The same is not true of physical releases, though. While they don’t get a general wide release, every now and then a limited edition physical game is released for the PS Vita. The latest of these is Jet Set Knights, released in June 2023 as a Play Asia store exclusive. There’s no real deadline on this so long as Sony certifies them, so there could even be more in future.

What Were The Launch Titles For The PS Vita?

What makes the ironic death of the PS Vita so terrible is the fact that it had quite the strong launch line-up, one that Sony at the time said was the strongest line-up of any console, ever. A bold claim, though there were some seriously strong contenders here. Check them out.

The PS Vita’s ‘death’ is ironic because ‘
Vita’ means ‘life
‘ in Latin. Go figure.

26 launch titles in Japan and 25 across Europe and North America. Great variety, from smaller games to major establishes series. It is a pretty stellar line-up, and from a wide number of publishers too. The amazing Gravity Rush launched only a few months later too. There was genuine potential for the PS Vita to be a heavy-hitter in terms of portable gaming.
