Hunter x Hunter: Hisoka Vs Chrollo Round 2, Explained
Hisoka and Chrollo are powerful characters in HxH. While they fought once, they could soon have a deadly rematch.
As things stand, Hisoka is being hunted by the Phantom Troupe, and Chrollo is ready to sacrifice his life to take him down. Hisoka’s story might come to a conclusion before the end of this arc.
Who Is Hisoka Morrow?
A Major Character in HxH
- Nen Abilities: Bungee Gum and Texture Surprise
Hisoka is definitely one of the most popular characters of Hunter x Hunter. He made his first appearance during the story’s first arc, when the Hunter Exam was ongoing, and ever since then, he has been involved in the vast majority of the story. Quite a lot of people consider Hisoka as a main character of HxH, alongside Gon, Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio. That is in part due to him following the same birthday pattern as the main characters.
Hisoka was a part of the Phantom Troupe for some time, and served the role of the number 4 of the Troupe. However, he was no loyal member and actually sought just one thing – a fight with the Troupe’s leader, Chrollo Lucilfer. Their fight was, however, pushed back many times due to various circumstances.
Hisoka has shown to be one of the strongest characters in the series. When it comes to Nen, he is a Transmuter. Hisoka makes use of two nen abilities: Bungee Gum and Texture Surprise, with the first being a Transmuter ability and the second a Conjuration one. Bungee Gum allows him to turn his aura into an elastic and sticky gum-like substance. While that sounds like an underwhelming ability, Hisoka is such a skillful fighter that this ability is empowered by him. Texture Surprise, on the other hand, is used by him to change the texture or appearance of something. This makes Hisoka a very versatile and interesting character to see in a fight, as was clearly seen in his fight against Kastro during the Heaven’s Arena arc.
See, I’m normal. I’m not interested in bestiality or an orgy – I can’t get aroused. I’m just a guy who wants to be with someone one on one… so we can love each other to death. — Hisoka
Hisoka loves a good fight and is aroused by it. He seeks strong people to fight as he enjoys it. One of his biggest targets for that is Chrollo. Hisoka, however, is specifically not interested in fighting groups, and is not interested in fighting non-humans either, which would include powerful characters such as the Chimera Ants.
Hisoka and Chrollo’s First Fight In Hunter X Hunter
- Hisoka Lost to Chrollo
- Hisoka Revived Himself with Bungee Gum
Hisoka lives for the thrill of battle. Perhaps the most anticipated fight in all of Hunter x Hunter was that of Hisoka vs Chrollo. This is definitely in part due to how long it was built up. Hisoka first tried to fight Chrollo during the Yorknew City arc, but due to Kurapika’s actions, Chrollo’s Nen was sealed, and he couldn’t fight.
Hisoka then wanted to fight Chrollo after he got his powers back, sometime after the events of Greed Island, but Chrollo was able to stay away for the time being.
Finally, during the current ongoing HxH arc, the Succession Contest arc, Hisoka was finally able to go head-to-head with Chrollo. The latter, however, had a huge advantage over Hisoka, as he had time to prepare for this fight, while Hisoka went into the fight with no real plan or any new abilities.

Hunter x Hunter 407: A Game Of Negotiation
Morena takes center stage in HxH 407. Her card games will be interesting to see unfold.
For this fight, Chrollo had acquired some new Nen abilities, two of which were from his own Phantom Troupe members, Shalnark and Kortopi. This fight, as many fans know, ended in Hisoka’s death, even though he fought quite well. Before dying, however, he ordered Bungee Gum to pump his heart and lungs again after death, which worked quite well. Hisoka, after his fight with Chrollo, was resurrected, and he wasted no time taking some drastic actions.
Hisoka killed two Phantom Troupe members, namely Shalnark and Kortopi, making Chrollo lose access to their abilities. He could have also killed Machi, but decided to spare her for the time being. He has a newfound bloodlust for the Phantom Troupe, and wants to kill each one of them. The Phantom Troupe are also after him for revenge.
Hisoka’s Future Death
Chrollo Will Try and Kill Hisoka
Hisoka, as well as the Phantom Troupe, are currently all on the Black Whale. It’s only a matter of time until someone loses their life. Bonolenov, one of the Spiders, located Hisoka and is on his tracks, and could definitely be the next one to die. All the Spiders are currently after Hisoka, and want to kill him before Chrollo gets to him.
Chrollo, in the meantime, is on a heist. He plans to steal the three national treasures of the Kakin Empire: The Seed Urn, the Zen Buddha, and the Blade of Divine Favor. If Chrollo can steal these, his Nen ability, “Skill Hunter,” will reach a new level and allow him to steal a rare and powerful Nen ability. What this ability is, is currently unknown, but it could be one fans have already seen in the manga, or something brand new that is yet to be revealed. With this ability, Chrollo seems confident he could kill Hisoka for good.
What this also implies is that Hisoka is possibly near-immortal right now. Hisoka can, in theory, pump his heart and lungs back with Bungee Gum as many times as he wishes, which is why killing him by normal means might not be possible. Chrollo is ready to die to take Hisoka down, and that kind of conviction is definitely to be taken seriously. The Succession Contest arc could see a rematch between Hisoka and Chrollo, and this time, the result might end with both of them dead.
Even if I should die… it’s the very idea that will instill fear of the spider that I designed..!! — Chrollo Lucilfer
There’s also a chance that Chrollo’s plan will fail, and that Hisoka will overcome this new challenge and eliminate the entire Phantom Troupe, so that is to be seen in the future. The death of two major characters would definitely be a shock to fans. Hisoka does not have much to do in the Dark Continent as well, as he is not interested in fighting non-humans. An interest him could only pique if a powerful human were to go there.
Hunter x Hunter is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Hunter x Hunter, Hunter x Hunter chapter 408, is set to be November 24th, 2024.
