The Most Valuable Alakazam Pokemon TCG Cards

The Most Valuable Alakazam Pokemon TCG Cards

Alakazam is one of the original inclusions in the Pokemon TCG, hailing as one of the most popular Pokemon from the first generation’s Kanto region. Alakazam’s strength in the mainline video games earned it early popularity that persists to modern times, with some of the best vintage sets boasting their own incredible Alakazam cards to collect.

Suicune sets the tone with stunning shiny cards.

While modern cards haven’t risen to strong enough valuations to compete with some of these supremely expensive cards, there are positive signs that certain cards, like Alakazam’s stunning Special Illustration Rare from 151, stand out as one of the set’s best cards. Although you’ll need to wait longer to see modern additions, Alakazam’s best vintage cards provide plenty to enjoy.

Cards are ordered according to their

Market Price,
which you might pay on average for a copy of the

cards below.

Given the age and rarity of these cards,
only
those with an
established market price on TCGplayer
are included.

However,
sale prices differ depending on the card’s condition,
so this market price is just a rough idea of the card’s value.

5 Alakazam: Expedition (Holo Rare) – $142.49

Reaching Enlightenment

The Alakazam Holo Rare from Expedition in the Pokemon TCG.

As one of the best cards in Expedition, this Alakazam stands out in part due to its high value, but also because of its unusual art that paints a picture of this Pokemon in a meditative state. This interpretation of Alakazam is unlike any other on this list and features a blurred design that portrays its Psychic powers.

You can find this card in both Reverse Holo and Holo Rare versions, with the latter jumping ahead with sales ranging from $30 for a heavily played (HP) up to as much as $174.98 for a near-mint (NM) copy. There’s some room for discounts if you can compromise on the condition, with moderately played (MP) sales at around $40, followed by lightly played (LP) cards at about $95.

4 Sabrina’s Alakazam: Gym Challenge First Edition (Holo Rare) – $165.00

Some Help From A Friend

The Alakazam from Gym Challenge in the Pokemon TCG.

Some of the most expensive cards you can find in Gym Challenge feature dynamic duos of popular trainers with their equally beloved Pokemon. Sabrina and Alakazam each have an impressive following, but when combined, it’s no surprise to watch their value soar well into the triple digits.

The premium for first edition copies is steep, with NM Unlimited copies only commanding $31, compared to the first edition’s $175 price tag for a card in the same condition. If you want a discount, then LP copies sit just below the $100 mark, followed by MP cards, which fetch about $64 and offer a much more affordable bar of entry.

3 Alakazam: Base Set First Edition (Holo Rare) – $209.88

The First Of Its Kind

The Alakazam Base Set First Edition Holo Rare from the Pokemon TCG.

Sometimes, it’s hard to surpass the original, with this iconic illustration of Alakazam standing tall as one of the Pokemon’s most valuable cards. Much like Gym Challenge, the first edition commands an impressive premium over the Unlimited version due to the allure of Shadowless cards.

Thundurus and Tornadus fly above the competition in Emerging Powers.

It’s extremely difficult to find first-edition copies of this Alakazam on TCGplayer, as there are only two recent sales: an HP copy for $50 and an MP sale at $270. Given the massive price difference, it’s impossible to say where LP or NM copies of this card might land on TCGplayer without recent sales. However, a sale of either card would certainly push this card’s market price through the roof.

2 Alakazam: Skyridge (Holo Rare) – $330.84

A Dark Presence

The Alakazam Holo Rare from Skyridge in the Pokemon TCG.

In some circles, Skyridge is regarded as the most desirable vintage set to collect, with many of the best Holo Rare Pokemon you’ll find in this set boasting incredibly high valuations that are only amplified if the card is in good condition. Despite Alakazam’s unusually intimidating depiction, this card’s value is likely to continue on a positive trend.

As one of the rarest Alakazam cards in existence, you’ll notice fewer sales on TCGplayer than many other cards, largely due to Skyridge’s scarcity.

There are only a few recent sales on TCGplayer of this card, but luckily they represent different conditions, with an MP sale at $249.99. An LP card sold for almost $310 while an NM card set the ceiling at the current market price. However, this means that the Skyridge Alakazam is prone to losing its high placement if more sales are posted for the Base Set Alakazam.

1 Alakazam Star: Crystal Guardians (Ultra Rare) – $404.99

One Spoon To Rule Them All

The Alakazam Gold Star from Crystal Guardians in the Pokemon TCG.

The Alakazam Star from Crystal Guardians is one of the most valuable Gold Star cards in the Pokemon TCG, earning its place with one of the most eye-catching illustrations of Alakazam you can find. Alakazam’s mid-action shot sees it brandishing its spoon at its enemy – which sounds far less terrifying than it looks on the card.

Spoons aside, this card’s price is strong, with damaged copies still ranging from $169.85 to as much as $199.99. The only other condition with sales data is LP, boasting two sales with a wide gap: one at $399.99 and the second at $499.99. While an NM copy of this card would easily push the market price up, we’ll have to wait until one sells on TCGplayer to see its confirmed value.
