  • Boruto’s potential could lead him to master the technique completely in the future.

Boruto Uzumaki is one of the mightiest ninjas in the Boruto: Two Blue Vortex manga and fans know him to be a massive genius. Ever since his childhood days, it was clear that Boruto would flourish as a ninja and that he had great potential, which was in contrast to his father. Naruto was deemed to be a failure right from the get-go, and he twisted his own destiny with his own hands. Boruto, on the other hand, is quite the opposite.

Boruto is deemed as a very gifted ninja, but, in his own ways, he defies destiny as well. Throughout his journey, Boruto has continued to grow stronger and live up to the expectations that fans have of him. This is true, especially after the 3-year time skip of the Boruto series, where he has emerged as one of the mightiest ninjas of all time. Clearly, Boruto has strength that can hardly be rivaled by anyone, and with his genius, he has created some very overpowered techniques, such as Uzuhiko. At the same time, he also created another powerful ability which is very similar to the Flying Thunder God of the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze.

The Power Of The Flying Thunder God Technique

The Flying Thunder God Is An Incredible Teleportation Space Time Ninjutsu

Fans know the Flying Thunder God technique very well from the Naruto series. This is a jutsu created by none other than the Second Hokage of Konoha, Tobirama Senju, and improved upon by the Fourth Hokage, Minato Namikaze, who is the most renowned user of this technique. Simply put, the Flying Thunder God technique allows the user to teleport instantaneously to a particular point. To make this Jutsu usable, one has to use a seal that they create themselves and mark something with it. This can be any object, such as a kunai, or a stone, or it can even be a human. These seals are seemingly permanent and cannot be erased, no matter what. In fact, even the death of either the target or the user cannot erase this seal, which just goes to show the incredibly overpowered nature of this ability. After an entity has been marked with a seal, the user can then use a void to instantly teleport to them in the blink of an eye. This teleportation is often compared to the body flicker technique, but it is very different.

The fastest man to ever live, Minato Namikaze! – Ay

The body figure technique utilizes the speed of the human performing the technique in order to make ground. However, the Flying Thunder God technique, in comparison, is more like Summoning Jutsu. It is instantaneous and simply summons the user near the seal, which is why it is even faster and considered to be one of the most lethal techniques ever. When Tobrama used this technique, he was deemed the fastest ninja of his time.

Minato's Kurama Chakra Mode

Meanwhile, Minato also came to be known as the fastest ninja of his era, and he reached even higher heights using his technique, because his version of it was far better. In fact, in the 4th Great Ninja War, Minato clearly showed the fans that his version was superior to the one of Tobirama and that he was the true master of the technique, even though he was not the creator.

Now, in the Boruto series, fans know that Boruto Uzumaki has learned this jutsu as well, and he performs it with great skill. Technically speaking, the Jutsu that Boruto uses isn’t the Flying Thunder God. His version of the technique is slightly different and an inferior version of the technique. Kashin Koji even states that it can be called an entirely different technique on its own. However, in order to pay homage to the Fourth Hokage, Boruto Uzumaki named the Jutsu the Flying Thunder God as well. The ways in which these two techniques work are very different, but they yield the same results, which also explains why the naming is similar.

How Boruto Uzumaki Learned The Flying Thunder God

  • Boruto Was Taught By Kashin Koji
  • 6 Years Worth Of Knowledge Was Given To Boruto

Boruto Uzumaki learned the Flying Thunder God technique through Kashin Koji, at least in the current timeline of the story. In the real timeline, it takes Boruto 6 years to learn this technique and come up with it on his own. However, even after 6 years, Boruto is not a perfect user of this technique, which just goes to highlight how much of a genius the likes of Tobirama and Minato truly were. Regardless, Boruto was essentially informed about how he managed to learn this technique and what method he used by Kashin Koji, which essentially gave him the theory part of the technique that took him 6 years to develop in a matter of seconds.

You named the technique Flying Thunder God to pay homage to your grandfather, the Fourth Hokage Minato. – Kashin Koji

This allowed Boruto to study and practice it effectively over the 2 years, and perfect this technique as well as he could. Simply put, Boruto Uzumaki doesn’t use a seal to teleport to objects, which means that his version of the technique is inferior. Instead, he uses his chakra and imbues it into metal. Any metal that he has on his body can be infused, and these include things like swords or even kunai. Once he infuses his tools with chakra, Boruto can then teleport to them using the Otsutsuki teleportation power by opening a void in space-time and teleporting instantaneously.

However, if Boruto simply marked various things with his chakra, then he wouldn’t know which one to teleport to. This would complicate things even more if these objects were spread over vast distances and he needed to travel far. This is precisely why Boruto Uzumaki ended up creating a very clever substitute. Instead of using various weapons, which all look the same, Boruto uses different metallic symbols. This is precisely why Boruto carries the symbols all over his body. For instance, a Konoha mark, a star symbol, among much else, can be found on Boruto’s clothing. These symbols, when infused with chakra, can be used by Boruto, and depending on his memory of which shape is where, Boruto can effectively teleport to wherever he wants.

Still, Boruto’s usage of this technique is not perfect because he requires a lot of concentration for the teleportation. Over very short distances, Boruto can’t teleport instantaneously. However, over long distances, Boruto needs a few seconds of focus for the ability to work properly. Boruto even goes on to state openly that his version of the technique is far inferior to that of the Fourth Hokage.

Is Boruto Going To Evolve The Flying Thunder God?

Boruto’s Technique Could Grow Further

The question of whether Boruto Uzumaki is likely going to evolve the Flying Thunder God technique or not is quite an interesting one, and the answer to this question is a resounding yes. Boruto is known to be a genius, and if he managed to learn this technique in a very short span of time, fans know that in his prime years, he will have mastered it completely, reaching similar levels to Minato in terms of teleportation. It is also possible that he will come up with a completely new technique, and utilize it accordingly. Boruto has a load of potential in him, and he will certainly go on to fulfill it as the series continues. All fans need to do is sit back and watch him reach the heights that he is destined to reach.

Boruto is available to read via Viz Media. The series can be read by the fans officially and for free on the Shonen Jump and the Manga Plus app. The release date for the next chapter of Boruto, Boruto: Two Blue Vortex chapter 17, is set to be December 20, 2024.
