FFXIV is one of the best MMORPGs around, and while it’s all good and well having the game able to play across multiple platforms, can you play the game with friends and guildmates who are on a different consoles? We’re here to illuminate the answer.
Is FFXIV Cross Platform and Crossplay?
The short answer is yes, FFXIV is cross platform and does have crossplay. That means Xbox players can play with Steam users, PS4 and 5 users can join PC players, etc.
There’s no special trick to this, it’s enabled by default. Just make sure you’re in the same World and Data Center as your friends and you can play with them regardless of the platform they’re on.
You can even play with your character on multiple platforms providing you have a copy of the game on that console.
Final Fantasy XIV Platforms
FFXIV can be played on multiple platforms. A full list is included below:
- Windows
- Steam
- PlayStation 4
- PlayStation 5
- macOS
- Xbox Series X/S
Keep in mind that if you wish to play FFXIV on multiple platforms, you may need to purchase multiple licenses for the game. For example, you’ll need a PlayStation license of the game to play the game on PS4 or PS5, and a Steam copy of the game isn’t the same as the Windows version with an independent launcher.
FFXIV also used to be available on PS3 as this was one of the launch promises for the game. However, despite this FFXIV was discontinued for the console in 2017 with the release of the Stormblood expansion, paving the way for graphical and mechanical improvements in the game.
