In the mid-2010s, multiplayer became a fairly important part of the Assassin’s Creed franchise’s identity. Introduced in 2010’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, multiplayer enjoyed an exciting debut, with the Wanted mode’s cat-and-mouse gameplay offering a surprising amount of depth and replayability. Assassin’s Creed 3 and Black Flag continued to expand on the series’ PvP modes, while also introducing a dedicated co-op mode for the first time. Co-op became a major part of Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s marketing and gameplay, but the poor reception to that entry seems to have spooked Ubisoft, with multiplayer having not appeared properly in the franchise since then.
But Assassin’s Creed Invictus is set to change that. Announced in September 2022, there’s still very little official information surrounding the upcoming Assassin’s Creed Invictus, which is believed to be a multiplayer spinoff. That said, there have been plenty of leaks surrounding the game, and a recent one suggests that it could be taking the series in a strange new direction. But while this direction might not fit Assassin’s Creed, it sounds like it’d be an ideal match for Far Cry.

One of the more divisive Assassin’s Creed titles recently received a graphical update that formulates the perfect excuse for fans to revisit it.
Assassin’s Creed Invictus’ Rumored Arcade-y Direction Explained
Back in September, a leaker by the username of j0nathan took to Twitter to supposedly shed some light on Assassin’s Creed Invictus‘ gameplay formula. According to the leak, Assassin’s Creed Invictus will be a Fall Guys-inspired multiplayer game that will see 16 players battle it out across a series of minigames. These minigames apparently include Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, and some kind of race that has players passing through checkpoints.
The sticking point for many, however, is the next part of j0nathan’s leak, which describes Assassin’s Creed Invictus as having an “arcade” feel, with hits having little impact and power-ups being present, such as a bubble shield akin to the one found in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. While this rumored direction could still be fun with the right care and attention from its developers, this arcade-like, perhaps even lighthearted tone doesn’t inherently sound like a good fit for a multiplayer Assassin’s Creed game.
Far Cry Would Suit An Arcade-y Multiplayer Spinoff
While it might be tricky to make Assassin’s Creed fit a more lighthearted, arcade-y tone, a Far Cry multiplayer spinoff in a similar vein could work quite well. The Far Cry franchise is home to plenty of serious, dramatic moments, but it’s also got more than its fair share of tongue-in-cheek action, humorous one-liners, and over-the-top story beats.
For every hard-hitting Vaas monologue, there’s an entire mission dedicated to getting high off the fumes of a burning weed farm. The Far Cry franchise has also experimented with otherworldly themes more than once, such as in Far Cry 6‘s Lost Between Worlds expansion, which saw players finding an alien spaceship and artificial intelligence.
Along with a less-serious tone, the Far Cry franchise also lends itself much better to fast-paced minigames, with plenty already being present in the series. From poker to knife throwing to quad bike races to the controversial cockfighting, Far Cry has had many minigames over the years, and a few would work well in a Fall Guys-inspired multiplayer spinoff.
