How To Repair The Bridge In Town In Luma Island

The island you call home in Luma Island is far larger than just your farm and the town, and there are all sorts of locations for you to discover, like the ruins of the ancient people who lived there. Unfortunately, between the recent earthquake and the passage of time, many locations have been blocked off, such as the Forest.

If you want a magical Luma friend on your adventure, here’s how to get one.

It used to be that the townspeople would go to the Forest to explore or harvest ingredients, but with the bridge broken, there’s no way to get across the massive gap. Fortunately, the town now has a talented new person who just moved into town and might be able to repair it.

As Luma Island is currently in
Early Access on Steam
, the information below may be subject to change at a later date.

How To Reach The Forest

Player character standing in front of the broken bridge to the Forest in Luma Island.

When you first enter the town, head down the first street on the right, and it’ll bring you to a broken bridge that leads to the Forest. Speak with Old Man Jeffery, and after the scene, you’ll be able to interact with the bridge and see the four items needed to repair it:

Bridge Material

How To Obtain

Bridge Beam x2

Purchased from the Carpenter’s Shop in town for 1,000 Gold each.

Silk Rope x5

Crafted from Spider Silk and Fiber at a Simple Workbench.

Spider Silk can be obtained by breaking Spider Webs and barrels at locations like the Ancient Farm Temple.

Fiber is crafted from Reeds at a Simple Workbench, and the Reeds needed can be harvested from Reeds growing around lakes and rivers.

Farm Plank x10

Crafted from Farm Logs at a Sawmill.

Farm Stone Block x5

Crafted from Farm Stone Blocks at a Sawmill.

The most important of these are the two Bridge Beams, and they can’t be crafted like other items. The Carpenter’s Shop where you can buy them is to the left and down the hill from Balthazar’s Shop, near the entrance to town.

When you’ve got all the materials, take them back to the Broken Bridge and interact with it like other builds to deposit all the items. Once repaired, you can cross the bridge and get to the Forest.

What’s Found In The Forest Biome?

The Forest contains a wide variety of new materials for regular recipes and Profession-related ones, new puzzles to complete, a new currency in Forest Nature Tokens, and new enemies, each with its own set of drops you can obtain by defeating them.

For new basic building materials, you’ll now have access to:

  • Forest Wood Logs, which become Forest Planks.
  • Forest Stones, which become Forest Stone Blocks.
  • Forest Resin, which is made into Forest Torches and glows green.
  • Iron Ore, which is made into Iron Ingots.

Forest Torches are a direct upgrade to Farm Torches, as you can
get four of them with each craft instead of two
for the same amount of materials.

Getting access to these new materials lets you build new things, such as the Garden Hose, and enables you to upgrade your tools into Iron versions once you fully upgrade their Copper levels at Sylvia’s Anvil, and find the Lost Forest Caves, where Iron Ore is found.

Forest Enemies

For the new enemies, you’ll begin finding Ghosts near the ruins at night, and Seed Spitter Plants at random locations at any time of the day. Both can be killed with your whip and when defeated, they drop:

Enemy

Drops

Ghost

Forest Ectoplasm, Bed Sheet, Lost Spirits, Tool Tokens, and Forest Nature Tokens

Seed Spitter

Forest Flower, Lost Spirits, Tool Tokens, and Forest Nature Tokens

Seed Spitters will
go to sleep at night and won’t wake up unless you get too close to them or attack first
, so you can run past them without a fight.

Forest Food Items

And as far as cooking and farming go, you’ve got plenty of new items there to find or craft, such as Forest Spice and Forest Fertilizer, as well as forageables and things to catch, such as:

  • Forest Mushrooms.
  • Forest Berries.
  • Forest Flowers.
  • Watercress.
  • Crayfish.
  • Barkfin.
  • Scallops.

This area also introduces a new bait type, Grasshoppers, and these are used to catch any of the fish from the Forest, as they won’t eat Caterpillars at all.

All the
Forest forageables can be used in several existing recipes
, such as Luma Food, as a substitute for things like Farm Berries, in addition to recipes that exclusively need them.
