First MLB The Show 25 Details Revealed, Sets And Seasons To Be Retired

Following the recent conclusion of the 2024 Major League Baseball season, Sony’s San Diego Studio has given fans their first look at what’s in store for MLB The Show 25, confirming straight off the bat that the unpopular Sets and Seasons feature will not be returning.

Sets and Seasons appears to be retiring even before MLB 25 debuts, with the developer announcing that you’ll be able to use any card you want in Season 4 of MLB The Show 24, including cards that are in your inventory from a previous season.

“We appreciate the feedback from our community and have also decided that Sets and Seasons will not be returning in MLB The Show 25, allowing every card to be used freely throughout the year,” the announcement on the PlayStation Blog says, adding that the direction of MLB 24 Season 4 will give players an idea of how the developers will approach next year’s game.

Players will even be able to begin earning rewards for MLB 25 as they play through Season 4 with the new Now & Later MLB The Show Packs, with each Now & Later pack able to be redeemed for a regular pack in MLB The Show 25.

The developer also teased a number of improvements coming in the next installment of the franchise, including deeper player journeys in Road to the Show, new elements of Diamond Dynasty that will replace Sets and Seasons, and improved Franchise trade metrics and offseason play. The gameplay is also set for a bit of a refresh, with MLB 25 expanding on quick-time events, defensive AI, and updated pathing for more engaging gameplay in the moment.

We can expect to hear more about MLB 25 and what it will be bringing to the franchise in the lead up to its release, which can be expected around the start of the Major League Baseball season in March next year.
