“If people like this are willing to spend this much on packs, this app will be around for a long, long time.”
Pokemon Pocket boasts speedy gameplay and a focus on collecting, with Stage Two ‘mons getting a lot of love in the game. But what are the strongest Stage Two cards available in Pocket currently? Let’s explore.
10 Machamp ex
Two-Player Starter Set Base Set Vibes
The original first edition card from Base Set’s Two-Player Starter Set was Machamp, and Pokemon Pocket also boasts a powerful version of this famed Stage Two fighting-type ‘mon.
While it takes a while to come online, once it does, you have a 180-HP beast with a three-energy attack that deals a whopping 120 damage a swing. Strong stuff, and it also boasts a beautiful alternate art ultra-rare version.
9 Gengar
Better Than Gengar ex?
While Gengar ex is exceptionally strong as well, with its 170 HP and its three-energy, 100-damage attack, the non-ex version of the card actually might be slightly better, as it only requires one energy to deal 50 damage – with an effect that recreates the ex’s Shadowy Spellbind static ability.
Of course, the ultra-rare versions of the ex card are clearly more attractive to collectors, but don’t sleep on standard Gengar. Sometimes, low-to-the-ground attackers are better than more energy-intensive attackers, especially in a fast metagame.
8 Alakazam
Underrated Threat To Big Energy Foes
An intriguing off-meta pick is the final evolution of Abra, which is also one of the strongest Stage Two psychic-type ‘mons in Pokemon Pocket. While Charizard is not the strongest archetype in Pocket, this card does immediately knock it out if it has four energies attached.

Now, you try to hit it.
When paired with a Sabrina supporter card, that equation seems more likely, but it is still something of a long shot. Despite that, this card is quite strong and with artwork originally seen in the TCG’s Mysterious Treasures set from 2007, it’s quite unique as well.
7 Blastoise ex
Hydro Bazooka > Hydro Pump
Riffing on the original Base Set printing of Blastoise, this card boasts a two-energy attack that deals 40 damage and a powerhouse second attack called Hydro Bazooka.
Hydro Bazooka looks at the amount of energy attached to Blastoise ex, and if there are two extra water energy present, the attack deals 160 instead of 100 damage. Pair with the Misty supporter card for super-quick knockouts.
6 Pidgeot
Switch Out Your Foe’s Active ‘Mon Every Turn
The final form of Pidgey boasts the strongest Stage Two colorless ‘mon in Pokemon Pocket, mostly due to this card’s Drive Off ability, which is a Sabrina supporter card on demand – forcing your foe to switch out their active ‘mon whenever you use it.
A 70-damage, two-energy attack is also nothing to sneeze at, and this card’s alternate art one-star rare version is a sight to behold, as it shows a determined Pidgeot clutching a helpless Magikarp in its talons with a steely expression on its face.
5 Greninja
Free Damage? In This Economy?
The final form of beloved water-type starter Pokemon Froakie is Greninja, one of the most popular ‘mons ever across the entire Pokemon franchise, and its Pokemon Pocket version lives up to that hype.
With its Water Shuriken ability, Greninja is the only ‘mon in Pokemon Pocket that can boast a damage-dealing ability that is not reliant on being dealt damage itself or other mitigating factors. Free damage is a precious commodity in any game, so this Stage Two ‘mon is an easy choice to kick off the top five.
4 Venusaur ex
An Offensive And Defensive Threat
Not surprisingly, the final evolutions of the original Kanto starters are all present here, as they’ve long been ultra-popular and beloved ‘mons across the entire franchise.

Who needs a potion when you have these extraordinary Pokemon that can heal themselves?
Venusaur ex hasn’t quite turned into a dominant archetype in Pocket, but it certainly has the stats to do so: 190 HP, a three-energy, 60-damage attack and a four-energy, 100-damage attack that also happens to heal 30 damage from Venusaur. Pair this with the Erika supporter card for an unstoppable bulwark of a grass-type ‘mon.
3 Dragonite
Draco Meteor: Pocket’s Strongest Attack?
While it’s far from the most consistent deck archetype in Pocket (due to needing two different energy types), Dragonite is an eminently strong Stage Two ‘mon with an absolutely staggering attack: Draco Meteor, which deals a towering 200 damage (albeit in a random fashion).
Much like coin-flipping cards, Draco Meteor is indeed random, but if those random choices work out in your favor, you can swing a game from the brink of defeat to a clean victory all thanks to this beloved pseudolegendary ‘mon.
2 Gardevoir
The Mewtwo ex Deck’s Engine Is OP
This is the engine that fuels the omnipresent Mewtwo ex deck. While Gardevoir rarely wants to be in the active spot due to a suboptimal attack (Psyshot deals 60 damage for three energy) and a two-energy retreat cost, if you get this card on the bench with a Mewtwo ex in the lead, your foe is in for a world of hurt.
Let’s not even delve into the idea of having two of these on the bench, as it’s unlikely your foe will ever be able to do much of anything if you’re able to attach three energy a turn to your active Psychic-type ‘mon.
1 Charizard ex
High HP + Huge Damage Output = Strongest Stage Two Card
What a surprise, one of the most iconic Pokemon cards of all time also happens to boast the strongest Stage Two in Pokemon Pocket: Charizard ex. While this card does take a few turns to get online – as well as a Moltres ex aiding energy creation – once you have at least five energy attached, no Pokemon in Pocket can stand in its way.
200 damage is a truly astounding amount for a single attack, and it harkens back to the original Base Set Charizard’s Fire Spin attack, which dealt an incredible (for the time) 120 damage in a single attack with the exact same drawback – discarding two fire energies attached to Charizard.
