Baldur’s Gate 3 Now Has A 100 Mod Limit On Console

Baldur's Gate 3 Now Has A 100 Mod Limit On Console

Key Takeaways

  • Baldur’s Gate 3 now has a 100 mod limit on consoles, as players have been reporting slow loading times and game crashes.
  • Saves that currently have more than 100 mods installed are now temporarily accessible, with Larian aiming to push out an update soon.
  • If you’re affected, you can either attempt to disable some mods via PC if you have a cross-save, or you’ll have to wait for the fix.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has had mods on consoles for a little while now, and even though the selection can feel a little lacking compared to the PC version, there’s already a wide variety of stuff to download and try out. In fact, the amount of stuff you can download at once is causing issues for some players, as Larian is now having to deal with performance issues, slow loading times, and game crash reports from some people.

In a new video posted to the Larian YouTube channel and Baldur’s Gate 3 website (thanks PC Gamer), the studio goes into more details about how mods are approved on consoles and what the whole process is. In this video, it’s explained that consoles can only juggle so many files at once, and that those that have as many mods as possible installed are going past that limit, leading to performance issues.

In an effort to try and mitigate those issues, Larian has asked fans to simply download the mods you actually want to play with – and get rid of the ones you’re not that fussed about – while also implementing a 100 mod limit on consoles for the less obedient players out there.

We sit down with a Baldur’s Gate 3 dev and the head of Larian Warsaw to discuss post-launch success, ongoing support, and studio growth.

Unfortunately, that means you’re in a bit of a pickle if you have over 100 mods installed already. If you have a save over the threshold, you are now temporarily banned from loading it up again, with the only options being to wait for a fix from Larian, or to attempt to disable some of the save’s mods on your PC if it’s a cross-save. If it isn’t, then you’re out of luck.

Thankfully, Larian does plan on releasing another patch soon that will give affected players access to these saves once again, after which you should be able to disable the mods you don’t want and continue playing as normal. Larian also stresses that mods in general can be quite unstable on consoles as a general rule, so there’s a high chance you’ll still run into problems that the studio simply can’t do anything about. It’s worth it for the bigger parties and playable Kuo-Toa though, right?
