Circana, the research group formerly known as NPD, has published its latest monthly US sales report, providing an updated look at the best-selling games of 2024 thus far. With the September report, nothing changes at the top, with EA Sports College Football 25 remaining No. 1.
CFB 25 was the first new entry in EA’s series in 10 years, dating back to NCAA Football 14 in 2013. It continues to perform well following its launch in July, teaming up with Madden NFL 25 to maintain the EA Sports MVP Bundle as the No. 4 seller of the year.
Madden also kept selling in September, pushing it up from the No. 12 spot on the 2024 charts last month to No. 7. August had marked the 25th straight year that a new Madden NFL release was the best-selling game debut during its launch month.
Only one new September entered the top 20 for the year thus far: EA Sports FC 25. Astro Bot, September’s No. 2 best-seller, didn’t crack the yearlong list, nor did the month’s No. 4 game, The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom. FC 25 cracking the top 20 pushed Spider-Man 2 off the list.
Whether or not CFB 25 can hold onto the crown of best-selling game for 2024 so far for much longer is in question, as Activision’s massively anticipated Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 launches on October 25. October’s US video game sales data won’t be available until November 20, however, so it could be some time before we find out where it lands on the charts.
The reporting period for the charts below covers December 30, 2023 through October 5, 2024. Read on to see the top 20 best-selling games of 2024 so far. Bear in mind, there are some caveats–Nintendo doesn’t provide digital sales for its games, for instance, so Echoes of Wisdom could have been higher on the September charts, though it’s unclear if that would have been enough to move it into this top 20 for the year.
