How to Reach Robbin ‘Ood and Skyfell Tower in Dragon Quest 3 Remake

DQ3-Skyfell-Tower-Map-1

Once you’ve completed Dreamer’s Tower and collected the Thief’s Key in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, your next task will be to collect the King’s Crown from Robbin ‘Ood, a notorious thief who lives in the forest northwest of Romaria. Robbin ‘Ood is located in Skyfell Tower, a dungeon very similar to Dreamer’s Tower. In many ways, you could say that Skyfell Tower is technically the game’s first real dungeon, because it has a true boss in Robbin ‘ood.

To reach Skyfell Tower, you’ll first need to head north from Romaria to the town of Khoryv. Once you’ve made it to Khoryv, make sure to rest, then head directly west, then down the peninsula. You should see a yellow circle marking the tower’s location.

Skyfell Tower Walkthrough First Floor 1F – Dragon Quest 3 Remake

DQ3-Skyfell-Tower-1F-Treasure-Main-Path

Skyfell Tower 1F Main Path:

When you first arrive at the tower, try to enter the west side of the structure. You’ll spend less time looking at the map, you’ll see that there is only one way up to the second floor.

On the first floor, you’ll encounter the following enemies:

  • Restless Armor
  • Crabid
  • Scornet
  • Vlady
  • Cumaulus
  • Healslime (Summoned as backup by Restless Armor)

The Restless Armor seems like the biggest threat outside the main monsters you face. It’s a good plan to go after them first. Vlady will drain your MP, which can be devastating at early levels. Crabids can – and often will – call in backup. They pack a serious punch, and you may not have the spells to hit their weak points. They can be a real problem, so don’t let them get out of hand. Having a character with a whip or boomerang can help.

There are several Treasure Chests on the first floor. See their locations below.

There are two treasure locations on floor 1F.

  • Treasure 1: Chain Sickle
  • Barrel 1: Magic Water

Skyfell Tower 2F Main Path:

When you reach the second floor and open the map, you’ll see that the stairs that lead to 3F are in the northeast corner of the floor. You’ll have to follow the northern wall around the outer edge of the tower, then make your way to the stairs.

If you head to the chamber in the southeast corner of the second floor, you’ll find Bub, a friendly Bubble Slime hiding behind one of the pedestals sitting in front of the statue. You have to get really close to the pedestal on the right for Bub to show themselves.

There are two new enemies we encountered on 2F:

All Treasure on Skyfell Tower 2F:

  • Chest 1: Wizard Staff (in same chamber as Bub, southeast corner)
  • Barrel 1: Seed of Defence
  • Barrel 2: 48 Gold Coins

Skyfell Tower 3F Main Path:

From the top of the stairs that lead to 3F, you can look at the map and see you have to make it all the way around the outer edge to reach the stairs that lead to the fourth floor. The first large chamber you’ll pass on the right has a single treasure chest in the southwestern corner.

There is a single NPC in the second, smaller chamber that sits in the center of the path that leads around the tower to the final staircase. He will explain the history of the tower, and doesn’t provide much in the way of help. There are two treasure pots along the north wall of the same chamber.

All Treasure on Skyfell Tower 3F:

  • Chest 1: Bronze Shield
  • Pot 1: Gold Coin
  • Pot 2: Strong Medicine

Skyfell Tower 4F Main Path:

When you reach the fourth floor of Skyfell Tower, you’ll find that it’s partially made up of a rooftop area, as well as a smaller indoor area. There are two pots found on the rooftop area. Inside, you’ll find where the bandits have been storing much of their loot. Among the pile, you’ll find two treasure chests and a pot. You’ll still have to deal with random encounters, so try and gather the treasure and make your way to the fifth floor as quickly as you can.

All Treasure on Skyfell Tower 4F:

There are five treasure locations on the fourth floor of Skyfell Tower:

Outside:

  • Pot 1: Pouch of Musk
  • Pot 2: 33 Gold Coins

Inside:

  • Pot 3: Phial of Magic Water
  • Chest 1: Mini-Medal
  • Chest 2: Prayer Ring

DQ3-Skyfell-Tower-5F-Encounter

When you reach the top of the spiral stairs that lead to the fifth floor of Skyfell Tower, you’ll immediately be spotted by Robbin ‘Ood’s underlings. They will quickly run up the stairs to tell their boss. Follow them up the stairs, as there is no treasure on 5F, and you want to avoid any more encounters.

When you reach the sixth floor, you’ll find Robbin ‘Ood and his three Robbin ‘Oodlums waiting for you. As you approach, a trap door will open under you. Don’t fret, this will only drop you on the fourth floor. Robbin ‘Ood jumps out the eastern window to the 4F rooftop. We don’t know for certain if you can simply head outside to find Robbin ‘Ood. We went up to 5F and jumped out the eastern window, which put us in the boss encounter right away.

All Treasure on Skyfell Tower 6F:

There are two treasure chests behind Robbin ‘Ood, which can only be opened after you finish the boss encounter.

  • Chest 1: Skull Ring
  • Chest 2: Ruby Wristband

How to Beat Robbin ‘Ood in Dragon Quest 3 Remake

DQ3-Robbin-Ood-Beat-Header

Robbin ‘Ood Main Strategy:

This can be a difficult fight for two reasons: you must climb the tower before the fight, and you will not have access to the strongest spells and abilities this early in the game.

We fought Robbin ‘Ood at level 13, with the rest of the party all about the same. And while it is certainly possible to get through the fight with all four party members alive, we finished the fight with one member dead. Unfortunately, this meant that one member did not receive the XP from the fight. However, it is not worth fighting over and over again to ensure everyone survives. Not long after this fight, you will find locations that will make up any lost XP extremely quickly.

Our strategy in this fight was to take out Robbin ;Ood first. Both he and the Robbin’ Oodlums are weak to Zap, but we did not have that spell unlocked yet, so we focused on Robbin ‘Ood first with his two main weaknesses: Fire and Wind.

By this time, the Hero should have Fire Slash, and possibly Gust Slash. In this case, the Fire Slash seems to do more damage. If you have a Mage, use Frizz. If you have a Priest, use Woosh. If you have a Thief, use Propellar Blade. This was our main strategy for taking out Robbin ‘Ood as fast as possible. Any attack with Wind or Fire is your best bet.

DQ3-Robbin-Ood-Attack

Robbin ‘Ood’s attacks are extremely strong, and can take out many early game party members within a couple of hits. Because of this, it is highly recommended that you bring a Priest for healing, or make sure you are stocked up with Medicinal Herbs in your party’s personal inventories.

IN the fight with Robbin ‘Ood, and any fight generally,
do not rush
. It is worth it to use a party member’s (or multiple members’) turn for healing. It is much better than wasting the entire encounter focusing just on attacks and then dying near the end.

Once you have Robbin’ Ood down to extremely low health, which is signified by the darker color of his name, you can begin focusing one or two party members’ attacks on the Robbin ‘Oodlums. If you have a boomerang or whip-wielding character, that is a good option as they can attack all three at once. Also, use any multi-enemy spells you can, such as Sizzle.

Collect the King’s Crown:

DQ3-Kings-Crown-Find-Skyfell-Tower

Once Robbin ‘Ood is defeated, he will beg you to let him go. We chose to set him free, but it does not seem to matter much to the overall game. You will encounter Robbin ‘Ood again at the Kidnapper’s Cave, no matter which you select. Afterward, the King’s Crown will be waiting for you to pick it up.

Return the crown to the King of Romaria whenever you want. You will briefly become King or Queen yourself. When you are ready to give it up, find the King in the stands at the Monster Arena, and he’ll take the crown back, and you may continue your journey.
