There were plenty of surprises with this year’s nominations for The Game Awards. As one of the biggest events of the year for the industry, the announcement of The Game Awards nominations is highly anticipated. With this being the 10th anniversary of the massive game-celebrating ceremony, gamers have been wondering which lucky games would be nominated for the coveted Game of the Year. While many have voiced that Silent Hill 2‘s remake and The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom were snubbed by not receiving a GOTY nomination, the Best Sports/Racing category possibly features the biggest snub of all.




This year’s nominations have been a little controversial. From the inclusion of the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC as a GOTY nominee to Black Myth: Wukong being one of the lowest rated GOTY nominations in Game Awards history, the event is shaping up to be interesting. The launch of EA Sports College Football 25 was hugely anticipated in the sports genre community, as it had been a whopping 11 years since the last college-focused football game by EA. Released back in July, EA Sports College Football 25 received mostly positive reviews and attracted an impressive number of players. At launch, more than 2.8 million joined in to experience the game. Additionally, EA Sports College Football 25 recently broke the all-time sales record for a football game in the U.S. Due to its success, the game getting a nomination in its specific category felt like it was an inevitability, but that has clearly turned out not to be the case.

Although this is a big shock for many sports fans, it isn’t the only snub in the genre. Forza Horizon 5 recently called out The Game Awards for not being nominated in the Best Ongoing Game category. Despite being a different nomination category, leaving the racing title out now presents two popular sports games without any representation at the event.
