Star Wars Outlaws was a pretty decent game, even if it didn’t set the world on fire when it first launched. It was held back by a number of issues, but one which almost everyone hated about the game was its forced stealth sections, which you would instantly fail if you got spotted. That sounds horrible in itself, but various glitches and bugs made them far worse, and they ended up being so bad that former creative director Julian Gerighty admitted they were “unfair”.
Star Wars Outlaws developer Massive Entertainment has done its best to try and fix them and make them a little more tolerable with post-launch patches, but following the arrival of new creative director Drew Rechner, it seems as though the team has decided to scrap them entirely. This was revealed in a new blog post earlier today, as it was explained by Rechner that forced stealth has now been removed from “almost all quest objectives.”
Star Wars Outlaws Title Update 1.4 Will Remove Forced Stealth
“Our first step in expanding player choice is removing forced stealth from almost all quest objectives,” says Rechner. “This doesn’t mean that sneaking is no longer a viable or even preferable option in some cases. Rather, if you’re caught while sneaking, the objective won’t fail and reset you to the last checkpoint. Instead, you’ll seamlessly transition into combat.”

Rechner explains that the decision to scrap forced stealth came about due to overwhelming fan feedback, and that Massive Entertainment felt like it was “forcing players into stealthy playstyles”. Instead, you’ll now be able to choose whether you want to try and stealth your way through a mission, go in all guns blazing, or a bit of both, when things inevitably go wrong.
Rechner also explains that this forced stealth removal also applies to syndicate districts, as you’ll soon be able to fight your way through them if you’re not chums with the people there, whereas before you were forced into sneaking around. These pretty big changes are included in Title Update 1.4 which is dropping tomorrow, which also includes a patch that will let you carry weapons around while climbing, another big issue that players had.
Star Wars Outlaws follows Kay Vess as she bids to out manoeuver the galaxy’s deadliest criminals. An open-world action-adventure game from Ubisoft, it also features grand space battles and a deep story.
