Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 has been a gateway to the Warhammer 40K universe to a lot of us who were curious. Not a day goes by without me consuming at least some form of 40K lore on Instagram. Longtime and fringe fans alike have lauded the game’s accuracy and are now hoping to see more.

Warhammer 40K Space Marine 2 Has Nailed The Live-Service Model
Space Marine 2 (and Helldivers 2, while we’re at it) are the PERFECT example of how to approach a game like this in 2024. Sorry, Concord!
While new content in the form of Operations and weapons have been added to Space Marine 2, one can’t help but hope to see more chapters being introduced, perhaps a new class, or even the option to play as a Dreadnaught or Primarch. While it’s unlikely that Space Marine 2 will take things so far, all things are possible in the name of the Emperor… and mods.
Space Marine 2 Will Ban Mods For Online Play, But Official Support Is Imminent
Modders have made it possible for players to choose Space Marine chapters that aren’t in the game, use unofficial weapons, and even play as a Primarch. However, it seems that these mods have been creating server issues that have been affecting everyone. Saber Interactive has announced that it will be banning the use of mods in public online servers, but private servers will not be affected (thanks, PC Gamer).
“Our data shows that a non-negligible amount of recent server stability issues are related to mods, and that instability impacts even those users who don’t have mods installed,” revealed game director Dmitriy Grigorenko. “We have also received user reports that their save files were corrupted after playing alongside players with mods.
“This is why, starting with our next big update in December, mods will be prohibited from public online sessions. That means that you will no longer be able to enter a public game if you have mods installed.” However, there was also some positive news with this announcement. While no specific date has been announced, Space Marine 2 will be getting official mod support.
We will also be providing an easy entry point to our backend for games with mods installed, so modders won’t have to spend time hacking the game executable after each patch,” continued Grigorenko. “If we somehow break this pipeline for mods by accident in the future, we’ll fix it. In addition to that, we will be releasing some of our tools to modders so they can develop mods with greater ease.”
This means that it will not only be easier to create mods for the game, but they will be more accurate thanks to the use of official tools. It also means that those who aren’t well versed with applying mods will find it easier to do so. I personally cannot wait to play as a Dreadnought and one-shot a Heldrake with a piece of rubble, or as Lord Calgar himself.
Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 again sees you battling for the Emperor, against armies of Tyranid aliens. You must fight to ensure the Imperium’s survival in the face of extinction.
