Key Takeaways
- MLB The Show 25’s Diamond Dynasty will not have Sets and Seasons.
- Sony’s San Diego Studio announced the changes in a new blog, along with several other gameplay details.
- Sets and Seasons have been a point of contention for fans since being introduced in MLB The Show 23.
Fans of MLB The Show rejoice! When MLB The Show 25 launches next year, Sets and Seasons will not be part of Diamond Dynasty. News about The Show 25’s features comes by way of a look-ahead blog shared on PlayStation, and comes after fans had repeatedly called on Sony San Diego to remove the feature.
For the uninitiated, beginning with MLB The Show 23 and extending into The Show 24, the game introduced Sets and Seasons into its ultimate team mode, Diamond Dynasty. Through Sets and Seasons, players could unlock high-powered 99 overall cards on Day 1, though there was a catch.
Each season lasted a set number of weeks (usually between six and eight) and each card belonged to a set within that season. When that season was up, though, you could no longer use that card, rendering the hard work meaningless. Granted, San Diego tried mitigating that by adding a “Wild Card” feature, where a player could use an older card, but the rest of the cards on a team had to be from that specific season.
The format was meant to deal with a traditional power-creep system, but ultimately left players frustrated at having to grind endlessly just to keep up.
“We appreciate the feedback from our community and have also decided that Sets and Seasons will not be returning in MLB The Show 25, allowing every card to be used freely throughout the year,” a statement in the post read. It’s unclear how exactly Sets and Seasons will be replaced, with further details set to come at a later date.

Other Details Shared In Blog
Beyond detailing some major Diamond Dynasty changes, the blog also outlined a few other changes coming to next year’s game. Of note, Road to the Show will “deepen the player’s journey,” while Franchise will boast “improved trade evaluation metrics.”
Elsewhere, gameplay is listed as being enhanced by expanded quick time events, better defensive AI and more engaging gameplay. Without any footage, it’s impossible to see how these changes look in real-time, though they are a nice start for a game that has started to feel same-y year-over-year.
