Dota 2 continues to dominate the MOBA scene by delivering great content year after year. 2024 is no exception, as Dota 2 has got two new heroes, Ringmaster and Kez. While Ringmaster was available to play for some time, Kez was made available quite recently. Not so surprisingly, Kez is quite overpowered, which should explain why players flock to pick the hero.
One of the biggest reasons for picking Kez is that the hero is currently a powerhouse and can dish out immense damage. In fact, Kez can take out multiple heroes at the same time, with the right items, of course. Unfortunately, Kez does require a bit of skill to play with, but this guide will cover everything there is to know about playing the hero, what items to pick, and so on.

The Troll Warlord can be a powerful player in Dota 2, for those who know how to use it properly.
Tips for Playing Kez in Dota 2
If you plan on playing Kez, you must understand that this hero is suitable for the safe lane or mid-lane. Additionally, the hero is complex, requiring players to switch between the two available disciplines, which gives players access to more than the usual four or five spells with other heroes in the roster.
Kez has different spells and capabilities depending on the equipped discipline. Kez can switch between the Kazurai Katana and Shodo Sai. Fortunately, the abilities for each discipline level up together, meaning players will not have to worry about spending their ability points sparingly.
Now that you know what makes Kez unique, let’s take a look at how you can play the hero and dominate your lane for easy wins.
When picking starter items, here is what you need to get:
- Tango (for health)
- Slippers of Agility
- Orb of Venom
- Quelling Blade
The purpose of getting these items is that they can be used to craft other handy items like Wraith Band and the Orb of Corrosion.
Since Kez is extremely overpowered, you can easily dominate your opponents early in the game. Start by getting the Echo Slash ability, and use it to keep enemy heroes at bay while you farm comfortably. While farming, you should focus on getting items like Magic Wand, Wraith Band, Power Threads, Orb of Corrosion, and Echo Sabre. Since Kez can be devastating early in the game, you can take easy kills by using any one of the following combos:
- Katana Discipline: Grappling Claw > Echo Slash > Raptor Dance
- Sai Discipline: Raven’s Veil > Talon Toss > Falcon Rush
- Katana + Sai Discipline: Talon Toss > Echo Slash > Raptor Dance
You can make many combinations with Kez’s abilities, allowing you to adapt to every situation.
Later in the game, you should focus on getting items like:
- Desolator
- Manta Style
- Diffusal Blade
- Satanic
- Eye of Skadi
- Radiance
Remember, Kez is not a defensive hero, and you would fare much better if you continued to pressure your opponents by pushing lanes, hunting weak heroes, and initiating team fights. Rest assured, you will have the enemy team running for cover in no time.
Now that you know how to play Kez in Dota 2, make the most of this information by trying out the hero in a match. Even if you do not get the hero at first, don’t panic. Eventually, you will understand how the hero works and how you can create some unique builds that can do devastating damage against the enemy team.
