One new type of Fortnite tournament has emerged in recent seasons, Reload events. The new game mode has a healthy player base and it gets pretty sweaty. There’s no better way to test your skills in Reload this season than the Fortnite Reload Duos Cash Cups. These are some of the first regular events or the mode, and they’re open to everyone.
From the best Fortnite players to up and comers, the in-game events take just about anyone. With Reload’s special rules it might even be better suited for tournaments than Battle Royale. If you want to try out this new mode in the most competitive setting, then the Reload Duos Cash Cups are the best places to do that. How do they work and how can you get involved?
Fortnite Reload Duos Cash Cups
The Fortnite Reload Duos Cash Cup are a new event, played specifically in the Reload game mode. It’s already a focal point for sweats in-game, so it’s a natural fit for a tournament. As a cash cup it’s a more casual form of tournament. There’s no lengthy qualification process. All you need to do is show up while the session is running and get involved.
In Reload, players aren’t penalized as highly for deaths. So, there’s the option of not playing as carefully. Since every death gives other teams points (not to mention your loot) though, it’s best to manage your kill to death ratio a bit more closely than in a deathmatch. The big prize is still for coming in first, just like in the FNCS. For Cash Cups, the prizes are a little lower, but plenty of the best Fortnite players are in here too.
Prizes
The prizes for the Reload Duos Cash Cups are a bit different depending on what region you’re in. There’s a good prize for winners everywhere though. These are the levels for your region:
OCE, Asia, Middle East, Brazil
- 1st – $600
- 2nd – $400
- 3rd – $300
- 4-5th – $200
- 6-10th – $100
Europe, NA,
- 1st – $3,000
- 2nd – $1,000
- 3rd – $600
- 4-10th – $200
Reloads and Storm
There are a couple of unique elements to Fortnite Reload tournaments that have emerged. The first is the problem of points for elims with Reloads on. Since the scoring doesn’t penialize kills beyond farming, it’s a mode that does open itself up to more aggressive pro play than standard Fortnite. However, that’s not how players did it when these tournaments first launched. Instead, they storm camped to such a degree that Reload now has more extreme rules.
Storm Sickness is a mechanic which punishes Fortntie players for loitering in the storm healing instead of getting out. Like Storm Surge, which punishes players for dealing no damage. In Reload tournaments, Epic has found only the most extreme Strom Sickness works as a big enough deterrent. So now, players will nearly instantly be killed if they attempt to camp the storm with a stack of med kits. Unfortunately, it means you have to be much more careful in the Fortnite Reload Duos Cash Cups than any other mode.
Outside of that, things are pretty straight forward for these events. Cash Cups are a great chance for new players to get some earnings next to their name and start to make their mark on competitive Fortnite in Reload.
