Since it released in Early Access way back in 2022, every update for Disney Dreamlight Valley added all sorts of new content for players. From new villagers, new recipes, and even new Star Paths, there is a never ending stream of content in Disney Dreamlight Valley. While the free patches certainly add a lot of content, the expansions add even more than that.
In addition to a new storyline and biomes, there are plenty of materials for players to gather as they work to craft all the new items and decorate a new area to their hearts’ content. One of these new resources that players can find in Storybook Vale is Magma, and here is how you can acquire it.

How to Get Magma
Magma is somewhat deceptive in Disney Dreamlight Valley, as it is not listed in an area you would expect. Despite being just molten rock, Magma is classified as a gem in Disney Dreamlight Valley. As such, it can be seen under the gems tab of Collections for Storybook Vale. Just like with any other gem, there are only certain biomes where Magma can be mined. Specifically, Magma can be mined from all areas of Mythopia which consists of the Elysian Fields, the Fiery Plains, the Statue’s Shadow, and Mount Olympus.
Mining nodes in Mythopia also have a chance of dropping Gold Nuggets and both Rubies and Shining Rubies. To complicate matters further, Magma has a fairly low chance of dropping. There is also a shiny variant of Magma that is also just as rare. So if you are trying to farm either version, make sure to bring along a villager with the mining role selected for their companion role. That way, you will get more Magma every time it drops.
If you see a rock with orange crystals sticking out of it in Mythopia, mine that spot. It has a guaranteed Magma or Shining Magma.
What is Magma Used For?
Just like with many materials in Disney Dreamlight Valley, Magma is used for crafting. There aren’t many items in the game yet that use it, but it is likely more will be added overtime. One example of an item that uses Magma is the Madrigal Family Door, which requires two Magma along with five Gold Ingots, five Gravel, five Lightning Spice, and 500 Storybook Magic.
You will also need Magma for the friendship quest, Mythic Restoration. For that quest, you will need to gather four Magma. Shiny Magma does not count for that quest, so make sure to save any Shiny Magma you find in case you end up needing it later.
