In some cases, these secret bosses are part of a side quest, with steps you need to complete to gain access to the boss. From an unassuming blacksmith, and a corrupt monk to the gods themselves, here are the best secret bosses in Black Myth: Wukong.

10

Elder Jinchi

Ancient Guanyin Temple

Elder Jinchi lumbering towards The Destined One in Guanyin Temple.

A secret boss found in the first chapter, Elder Jinchi is only available once you ring all three bells around Black Wind Mountain. For each bell, there is a boss to defeat, which makes it quite a journey to undertake to be able to find this boss.

Once the third bell is rung, the Destined One is immediately spirited away to the boss arena. Although Elder Jinchi is not a difficult boss to defeat (not after Wandering Wight), he drops the Fireproof Mantle, which is an extremely useful vessel for later boss fights.

Mad Tiger

Bottom of the Well

The Mad Tiger monologues in Black Myth Wukong.

Found at the bottom of a well in Sandgate Village, the Mad Tiger is a massive, intimidating boss who is very easily missed. The Destined One must first obtain an Old-Rattle Drum from a mini-boss, the Tiger’s Acolyte, found guarding a bridge at Yellow Wind Formation.

Just like his brother the Tiger Vanguard, the Mad Tiger is extremely aggressive with long attack combos. Not only does he hit hard, but he is fast, zipping from one corner to the other. You’ll usually need to be very careful in knowing when to heal as this boss does not let up at all.

8

Black Loong

Hidden Loong Cavern

The Destined One charges at Black Loong in Black Myth Wukong.

A secret boss in Chapter Two, the Black Loong is found near Rockrest Flat Shrine up a flight of steps and behind a waterfall. Once you’ve obtained Loong Scales, you’ll be able to access the Black Loong boss arena with no trouble.

Like the Red Loong boss in Chapter One, the Black Loong wields lightning. However, this boss uses two maces, which he slams to the ground repeatedly like a drum, causing electrical shockwaves. It would be a far more difficult boss fight, were it not for the boulders you could use to dodge the shockwaves.

Listen to the boss’s music as he smashes his weapons according to the beat. You can avoid getting hit by jumping to the rhythm while you head in the direction of a boulder.

7

Fuban

Kingdom Of Sahali

Fuban shows itself in Black Myth Wukong.

One of the most epic cinematic bosses fights ever, Fuban is a gigantic, multicoloured beetle you fight once you’ve completed a quest to find the lost Kingdom of Sahali. You’ll find the Yellow Wind Sage – the same one you’ll fight later on – trying to draw out Fuban to fight it. That’s right, folks, you’ve travelled back in time.

Looking for that pesky last Gourd in Black Myth: Wukong?

As soon as you get Fuban’s life down to a certain level, the Yellow Wind Sage will join you in battle. From there, it’s smooth sailing, and you’ll receive the Wind Tamer vessel. Ironically, it’s the tool that’ll help you win the boss fight against your former ally to conclude Chapter Two.

6

The Duskveil / Blood Moon General

Cloudnest Peak

Located in a secret area called Purple Cloud Mountain, the Duskveil breaks free of its prison high above the temple grounds, covered in blood. This giant of a boss has a skeletal frame, complete with an ox’s skull and a pair of wings. Its wings are too small for it to take flight, and it tumbles to the ground and could end up squishing you if you’re not careful.

Just when you think it’s over, the sky turns blood-red and the boss’ torso begins to glow. Morphing into its second phase as the Blood Moon General, it whips out a crimson blade as long as its arm. With new AoE attacks in its arsenal, you’re in for a blood-pumping (no pun intended) fight to the death.

5

Yin Tiger

Zodiac Village

A blacksmith found at the end of Zodiac Village, the Destined One can trigger a boss fight by challenging Yin Tiger to a spar. One of the hardest boss fights in the game, the Yin Tiger is scarily fast and has long-range attacks. He also disappears and reappears, before swinging his cleaver for a devastating blow.

Once defeated, you will earn the spell that allows you to transform into the Yin Tiger. The option to craft an Iron armour set will also be available; you can challenge Yin Tiger as often as you’d like, even after defeating him the first time.

4

Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast

Corridor of Ice and Fire

Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast leaps into the sky in Black Myth Wukong.

Found in Chapter Five, the Bishui Golden-Eyed Beast is, without a doubt, a unique boss. To find it, however, you’ll need to obtain the Cooling Slope and have taken out the Five Element Carts bosses, before venturing down the Corridor of Ice and Fire.

When you first encounter him, the boss will be wielding fire. However, you might notice the ice wall at the opposite end of the boss arena. If you lead the boss there and use its flame attacks to melt the ice, you’ll be able to squeeze through to another boss arena, where you’ll find the beast wielding ice this time. There is a third arena as well, where the boss will revert to using fire again.

3

Giant Shigandang

The Destined One fights Giant Shigandang in Black Myth Wukong.

If you think the Shigandang boss you meet in Chapter Two is massive, then wait until you get to Chapter Six. Located near the Verdant Path Shrine, the Giant Shigandang boss will only appear once you’ve collected all four Skandhas scattered throughout the game.

Although its ginormous size might be both overwhelming and intimidating at first, all you need to target are the blue crystals lining its fists. Giant Shigandang will hammer its fists onto the ground and cause shockwaves, but simply leaping into the air should do the trick. All in all, a good old gimmick boss fight.

2

Erlang, the Sacred Divinity

Mount Mei

Alongside Sun Wukong, Erlang Shen had a grand introduction during the opening of the game. Technically the first boss you ever fought, he is a pivotal opponent you must defeat if you want to unlock the True Ending.

Erlang, the Sacred Divinity is located in the towering pagoda you see back in Chapter 3 when you first make it out of the Pagoda Realm. The game doesn’t want to make things too easy, however, as you’ll have to defeat a series of secret bosses to gain entry into the pagoda. Once inside, you’re in for the fight of your life.

1

The Four Heavenly Kings

Mount Mei

The Destined One takes on the Four Heavenly Kings in Black Myth: Wukong.

As mentioned above, there are steps to take from one chapter to the next to access the pagoda in Chapter 3. Once you’ve defeated Erlang Shen, there’ll be a cutscene, which sees the Destined One shift into a giant to finally face The Four Heavenly Kings.

Like Erlang Shen, The Four Heavenly Kings were introduced in the opening scene of the game, attempting to subdue and kill Sun Wukong. Now it is the Destined One’s turn to battle all four Buddhist deities and defeat them once and for all.
