Metaphor: ReFantazio brings the calendar and life-sim mechanics of the Persona series to a high fantasy world. Metaphor is considered by many to be Atlus’s magnum opus, and one of the best JRPGs ever created. Still, no game is without its flaws, no matter how minor, but mods can help to fix those.

There’s a long history of Atlas games to pull from.
Mods are by no means necessary to enjoy the entirety of Metaphor, but players who like to have a bit more control over the game’s settings will definitely want to dip their toes into modding. Below, we’ll take a look at several of the best mods for the game.
MetaphorFix is an all-encompassing mod that seeks to improve various aspects of the game, adding quality-of-life features that make the game overall smoother to play. These include allowing you to skip the intro, disable camera shake, uncap FPS in menus, adjust FOV, support ultrawide monitors, and more.
MetaphorFix also provides several graphical improvements, allowing you to change the game’s ambient occlusion resolution, shadow resolution, and detail distance, or disable black outlines. Overall, if you plan on modding your game, MetaphorFix provides many improvements that are definitely worth checking out.
Metaphor’s Anti-aliasing is less than desirable, leaving jagged edges all over the place. As its name implies, this mod seeks to improve anti-aliasing using SMAA and TAA to smooth out edges and give the game an overall more polished and crisp look.
We’ll admit, the differences are subtle, but if you are particularly affected by bad anti-aliasing, you’ll definitely want to use this mod to make things a little better.

Enhanced DLC BGM
Metaphor: ReFantazio’s DLC lets you equip your party with costumes from a range of Atlus games, including Persona 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5, Shin Megami Tensei 4 and 5, and Etrian Odyssey. When you have your characters in a particular outfit, the battle and post-battle songs in the game will change to match those of the outfit’s game.

This mod adds songs for when you are at an advantage or disadvantage in battle, greatly expanding the music added with the DLC. This mod also lets you manually select which battle songs to use regardless of the equipped outfit, and you can even use random mode to play a random selection of battle music. This mod also includes songs from Shin Megami Tensei 3: Nocturne.
It’s important to note that Enhanced DLC BGM only works if you own the DLC and have received the outfits in-game. This mod will not give you the DLC outfits for free.
A common criticism of Metaphor: ReFantazio is its dated graphical fidelity, some often comparing it to a PS3-era game. While some locations are definitely visually stunning, others have muddy or blurry textures that could be improved, which is what this mod seeks to accomplish.
1vierock’s 4k mod improves textures across the entire game, greatly increasing graphical quality throughout Metaphor’s world. For the best results, we recommend using this mod with Better Antialiasing, giving the game a much crisper look.

Fantasy Remastered
Fantasy Remastered is a simple shader mod that makes the game overall more vibrant and colorful by increasing contrast and saturation. This mod doesn’t necessarily improve the game, but it does provide a different look and feel as you journey through the game.

This mod also includes the ability to toggle the HUD on or off at any point, which is perfect for screenshot enthusiasts or players who want to get more immersed while delving into dungeons. These features can be used separately, so even if you don’t want to alter the game’s look, you can use the HUD toggler for a cleaner experience.

Film Art Anime Reshade Collection
Film Art Anime Reshade Collection is another shader mod, but this one provides four different presets to choose from, each with a different visual style.
- Light: provides a bright, vibrant color scheme that overall improves visibility and makes the game more colorful.
- Bold: increases contrast and saturation, creating distinct definitions between colors and objects
- Fantasy: decreases saturation and adds film grain to give the game a nostalgic feel
- Dark: greatly decreases saturation and adds film grain, giving the game a much darker feel
This collection is perfect if you want to give the game a completely different look and feel through each shader’s color palettes, especially if the Fantasy Remastered shader isn’t to your liking.

Main Character Hair Color Change
This simple mod lets you change the protagonist’s hair color, both in his model and portrait. The mod currently supports black, green, and white hair for both the model and portrait, and red hair for only the character model.
If the protagonist looks a bit too similar to Persona 3’s protagonist for your liking, you can use this mod to change things up. The mod also includes a texture creator kit, which lets you create your own portraits and textures. If you have the artistic and technical skill, you could make the main character’s hair whatever color you want using this kit.
