Ranking Every Dramatic Finish In Dragon Ball Fighterz

Dragon Ball Fighterz is a fighting game created by Arc Systems. The title is filled with fast-paced gameplay that looks beautiful because of Akira Toriyama’s signature art style. The game is deeply beloved by fans and considered among the best Dragon Ball games ever. One notable reason is due to the dramatic finishes, which all tie back to previous Dragon Ball media to bring out the nostalgia.

Although all of these cutscenes are faithful to the franchise and are well-made, some dramatic finishes are far better than others. As such, it is hard to determine which one is the best out of them.

Nappa Vs. Yamcha

Gone Too Soon

At this point, Yamcha might be most known for the moment he gets blown up by a Saibaman as it has become a long-running joke. And this dramatic finish is a recreation of that iconic Saiyan Saga scene.

Krillin has a dramatic intro with Nappa if Rocky Field (Noon) is selected.

From the cinematography to the exact positioning of Yamcha’s corpse, it is a faithful rendition of the classic death. However, the finish happens a little too quickly, so it doesn’t have the same drama as the original.

Goku Vs. Frieza

A Fake Ending

Based on a moment in the Namek saga, Goku uses the spirit bomb in order to end Frieza for good. Although it didn’t work in the anime, the dramatic finish version counts as a victory for the Saiyan.

Goku (Super Saiyan) and Frieza have a dramatic intro in Planet Namek that happens just after this Dramatic Finish.

It’s a solid recreation of the scene because of its lighting and voice acting. Yet, it’s an odd choice for a finish. After all, fans know that in the original, Frieza gets back up and kills Krillin.

Goku Vs. Vegeta

Final Clash Before The Monkey

This dramatic finish is focused on Goku and Vegeta’s first fight, back when they were still enemies. More specifically, it’s based heavily on the beam clash where Vegeta threatens to destroy the planet. Base form Goku – one of the game’s best versions of the Saiyan – overcomes his foe by boosting his Kaio-Ken ability.

Once again, this finish wasn’t actually a definitive victory in the source material. But this is such an iconic scene that it’s no wonder it made it into the game. And the camera work for it has been faithfully recreated by Arc Systems.

Trunks Vs. Frieza

Sliced In Half

This finish depicts the moment when Future Trunks appears in the present timeline and demolishes Frieza. After initiating a strong slash across, the fan-favorite character continues using more fancy sword work until he eventually kills Frieza with a ki-blast.

It lacks the same graphic tone as the original. For instance, you don’t witness the cool visual of the villain being chopped up into little pieces floating in the air. The finish is still fairly well done, though.

Beerus Vs. Goku (Super Saiyan)

A Godly Duel

As a recreation of the Battle Of Gods climax, it is the moment when Goku gets defeated by Beerus. However, after hearing the cries of his loved ones, Goku eventually uses everything he has left to stop Beerus’s attack.

They had to change the scene’s dialog for the dramatic finish as they couldn’t fit in the entire conversation the two characters shared. Thankfully, though, they still managed to convey the respect Beerus had gained for the Saiyan.

Goku (Super Saiyan) Vs. Kid Buu

The Most Effective Spirit Bomb

Showing the final moments of Dragon Ball before the events of Super, Goku utilizes the super spirit bomb, which incinerates Kid Buu. After this moment, he wishes and hopes that the villain is reborn as someone good.

Similar to the other spirit bomb’s dramatic finish, it is a faithful recreation. However, this one is based on a more impactful and conclusive scene, surpassing the other.

Goku (Super Saiyan) Vs. Frieza

The Real End Of The Fight

One of the most powerful moments in the Namek saga was the final shot of Goku fighting Frieza. After sparing him, the villain attempts to kill the protagonist, only for him to release an angry ki blast, seemingly killing the character.

Although it didn’t finish him off completely as shown in the manga, the anger and power behind the attack still made the moment iconic. This finish lives up to the source material and is proof that Fighterz is among the most beautiful fighting titles ever.

Frieza Vs. Bardock

The Fall Of The Saiyan Race

The original Bardock special is a fantastic bit of Dragon Ball media, and the ending of the piece is depicted in this dramatic finish; a huge ball of energy destroys the Saiyan. But before he perishes, Bardock sees a vision of his son fighting the villain. The image allows him to die peacefully, knowing that his son will avenge their race.

The finish is a little different from the actual scene as Frieza’s minions are absent. Thankfully, though, the emotion of the original remains.

Gohan (Teen) Vs. Cell

The Peak Of Dragon Ball

This dramatic finish is based on the classic ending of the Cell Saga. In it, Teen Gohan finally vanquishes the bio-android so forcefully that he can’t possibly regenerate.

Using elements from both the anime and manga, such as Cell’s exaggerated face, helps to highlight the impact of the attack just like it did in the original. Not only that, but the tension from the father and son Kamehameha wave is masterfully recreated also.

Yamcha Vs. Nappa

Fateful Remach

One of the unique elements that Arc Systems has introduced in Dragon Ball Fighterz is the potential what-ifs. The classic Saibaman kills Yamcha scene is switched around. In this one, the human manages to avoid getting blown up, and Nappa is taken out instead.

It’s a clever way to add some variation to the vintage joke. Plus, it actually makes Yamcha look like a badass for once – or at the very least, a little less pathetic.

Gohan (Adult) Vs. Broly

A Family Ordeal

Similar to the Teen Gohan versus Cell dramatic finish, this cutscene is another father and son(s) Kamehameha. However, this one is inspired by the final attack in the second Broly movie.

You can recreate this family Kamehameha in normal gameplay by having Goku (Super Saiyan) in your team. If you have Gotenks, however, Gohan will do his Kamehameha alone.

The blast is powerful enough to send the Legendary Super Saiyan straight into the sun, where he is destroyed for good. Not only is it a faithful remake, but it is also filled with tension and makes for a powerful ending.

Trunks Vs. Zamasu (Fused)

The Spirit Bomb Sword

Taking place during Super’s Goku Black arc, it’s the sequence where Future Trunks deals the final blow against Fused Zamasu. He does so by creating the Spirit Sword and charging at the villain. After some dodging by the god-like creature, Trunks finally lands a strike and destroys the evil-doer.

Although Zamasu’s reign of terror wasn’t over after this attack in the anime, it kills him permanently during Dragon Ball Fighterz, and it arguably serves as a better ending than the one Super provided.

Goku (Super Saiyan) And Frieza Vs. Jiren

Quite The Fall

Fighterz is one of the great tag-team fighting games, and teamwork is needed for this dramatic finish. Following the same beats as in the final moments of the Tournament of Power, Goku and Frieza use everything they have left to defeat Jiren.

Frieza needs to be alive in the team for the Dramatic Finish to trigger.

The only difference with this version is the Universe seven combatants don’t drag Jiren out of the ring, as there aren’t any ring-outs in Fighterz. Instead, the uneasy allies cause a giant explosion that defeats Jiren. The moment is just as effective, especially with the show of respect Goku gives his opponent at the end.

Goku (Super Saiyan) Vs. Broly

Galactic Fist

Inspired by the first Broly movie, this dramatic finish focuses on the final strike that Goku does on the titular villain. For the majority of the film, the Z fighters couldn’t hurt Broly at all, but Goku was able to pull it off thanks to absorbing the ki of his friends.

As a result, he throws one strong punch that eliminates Broly. The whole thing is lit up beautifully due to the game’s engine.

Vegito (SSGSS) Vs. Zamasu (Fused)

How It Should Have Ended

This is another finish that takes some creative liberty with the source material. It’s understandable, though, as Blue Vegito hasn’t exactly had many fights, so finding a dramatic finish for the fused character would’ve been difficult.

It begins with Zamasu providing a monologue that lasts for a few moments. It ends with Vegito punching him and initiating the final Kamehameha wave. The scene is well-animated, but it also offers well-choreographed shots and highly accurate portrayals of both characters.

Gogeta (SSGSS) Vs. Janemba

Maximum Disrespect

The fight between Gogeta and Janemba is one of the former’s most iconic fights. As such, many elements from that battle are implemented here.

However, one of the best elements of this dramatic finish is not from the Fusion Reborn movie. Gogeta reverts from Super Saiyan Blue to regular Super Saiyan, showing Janemba that he is nowhere near his power. Then the Saiyan proves it by finishing the demon off. It’s one of the more disrespectful dramatic finishes.

Bardock Vs. Frieza

The Rise Of The Saiyans

In this alternate scenario, Frieza is about to finish off Bardock as he does in the anime special and the other dramatic finish. This time, though, when the Saiyan has the vision of his son facing off against the emperor, he doesn’t die happy. Instead, the warrior gets mad and defies his fate.

He turns Super Saiyan and kills Frieza long before his son ever gets the chance to do it himself. Dramatic finishes don’t get much more satisfying.

Goku (SSGSS) Vs. Kefla

Surfing Kamehameha

A recreation of the moment Goku fought against Kefla begins with the latter blasting her opponent before he transforms into Ultra Instinct Sign. Afterward, Kefla initiates another attack while Goku dodges everything she throws at him.

He slides across her beam and finishes the fused Saiyan with a Kamehameha wave. The move is as amazing in video game form as it was in the anime. And the cinematography is among the best out of the dramatic finishes.

Gogeta (SSGSS) Vs. Gogeta (SS4)

Vegito Sits This One Out

What-if dramatic finishes don’t get much better than this one as it pits two different versions of Gogeta against one another. The pair get into a beam struggle that shakes the planet and even the sun.

Whichever Gogeta wins the fight is also victorious in the beam struggle. The loser, on the other hand, separates back into Goku and Vegeta. This represents the debate between GT and Super but also pokes fun at the different incarnations of Gogeta. Of course, both of them are among the best characters in Fighterz.

The Movie In A Nutshell

Some of the game’s finishes have to alter things about the original scene, but not much of that happens in this one. The sequence is almost completely faithful to the final moments between Gogeta and Broly in the Super movie.

Even the moment when Cheelai wishes for Broly to be back on his home planet is included. As a bonus, the choreography and lighting of the finish are one of, if not the best in the entire game.
