Fans holding out hope for any news about Metroid Prime 4 may have reasons to celebrate. Nintendo has added the title to the official Metroid home page, which notes that players will be able to “embark on a new mission coming to Nintendo Switch in 2025.”
The change to Metroid’s site was first spotted on Reddit by a user going by the name of Vasishath. It’s also sparked speculation that more news may come soon. It’s likely to be one of last AAA games on the Switch since Nintendo’s still unannounced Switch successor may also arrive in 2025. Fortunately, Nintendo has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be backwards compatible with Switch games.
The Metroid games follow bounty hunter Samus Aran on her adventures across the galaxy, but Metroid Prime was the series’ initial first-person shooter in 2002 on GameCube. A remastered version of Metroid Prime was released last year, but the most recent game in the series, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, arrived on the Wii when it was still relatively new in 2007.
Nintendo finally announced Metroid Prime 4 10 years later at E3 2017. However, two years later, Nintendo revealed that the game was being completely redeveloped by Retro Studios, the developer behind the Metroid Prime trilogy. It was another five years before Nintendo debuted the game’s first teaser trailer, and confirmed that it would be called Metroid Prime 4: Beyond. Story details about the sequel remain elusive, but we have re-examined everything that’s happened in the Metroid Prime games so far. We’ll just have to wait until next year to see what awaits Samus in her next story.
