McDonald’s is Bringing Back the McRib

Fans of the McDonald’s McRib will be happy to know that the pork sandwich is about to make a comeback. The unique BBQ-style sandwich has been on and off the menu since its inception at McDonald’s, with fans eagerly awaiting its return every time it disappears from stores.

The McDonald’s McRib dates all the way back to 1981 when it was first introduced in restaurants. Four years later, it was removed from the menu due to poor sales and performance, but made its way back in during 1989. Since then, the McRib has come and gone from most McDonald’s menus, though there are some locations that carry it year-round, most notably in Germany.

For McDonald’s patrons located in the US, the legendary McRib is coming back to stores starting on December 3. However, as usual, the BBQ sandwich will only be available for a limited time. Exactly how long it will remain on the menu is unknown. Those who have been dearly missing it or want to try it for the first time should consider checking their local McDonald’s ASAP once December 3 hits. However, McDonald’s is adding an extra special surprise this time around that hasn’t been offered in the past.

McDonald’s Introduces McRib Sauce

For most fans of the McRib, it’s the sauce that makes the sandwich so worth it. McDonald’s appears to be capitalizing on that this time around, as starting on November 25, McDonald’s will allow consumers to buy the McRib sauce by the half-gallon. The McRib sauce is sold in festive packaging that looks similar to the so-called ugly Christmas sweater trend, down to pixelized embroidery-style art of the McRib sandwiches. The jugs will cost $19.99 for the half gallon. Fans interested in buying it will need to check McDonald’s website, as it won’t be sold in this format in stores.

Right now, it remains to be seen if the McRib can drive the same sort of fervor that McDonald’s experienced for the Chicken Big Mac. That sandwich came to US-based McDonald’s back in October, with a promo-tie in with Kai Cenat. The biggest deal here may be the sauce, though. McDonald’s customers have been known to go absolutely crazy for McDonald’s sauces before, with patrons flooding stores when the restaurant chain brought back Szechuan sauce due to its popularity in Rick and Morty. While this particular promotion lacks the additional fervor that came courtesy of that fandom, it still seems likely that the sauce could sell out and only be available through resellers with steep mark-ups.
