Human Hero Units in Warcraft 3: Reforged
In Warcraft 3: Reforged, you can construct the Altar of Kings to train Hero Units. The building requires 180 Gold and 40 Lumber. In most cases, you’ll want to build the Altar of Kings as your first building so that you can start training a Hero unit right away.
Hero Name |
Hero Type |
Abilities |
---|---|---|
Blood Mage |
Spellcaster/Control |
|
Archmage |
Spellcaster/DPS |
|
Mountain King |
Warrior/DPS |
|
Paladin |
Warrior/Support |
|
Like all Hero units in
Warcraft 3: Reforged,
the first only costs 5 Food to train. Training a second Hero Unit will require upgrading your Town Hall to Keep, 100 Lumber, and 400 Gold.
In the current meta, both Archmage and Paladin are great choices as heroes, giving you a good balance of DPS and utility for your troops. Archmage’s Summon Water Elemental is extremely useful in early skirmishes. Paladin has the same skill set as Arthas from the main campaign and is also a great choice as your first hero. If your Hero Unit falls in battle, you can revive it at the Altar of Kings by spending Gold.
You can also train a third Hero Unit by upgrading your Keep to Castle, but it’s usually better to save your resources to create a bigger army instead.

All Human Buildings in Warcraft 3: Reforged
Playing as the Human Faction will give you access to 11 buildings. When you start the game, you’ll already have a Town Hall, but building the rest will require you to spend resources. Some will also only become available once you upgrade your Town Hall to Keep or Castle.
Locked buildings will be grayed out. Hover your cursor over such structures to check the requirements for unlocking them.
Here’s a list of all Human buildings in the game:
Building Name |
Cost |
What it Does |
---|---|---|
Town Hall |
Serves as your main base. You start the game with a Town Hall. It can also train Peasants. |
|
Barracks |
Trains and upgrades Footmen, Riflemen, and Knights. |
|
Lumber Mill |
Peasants can deposit Lumber in the building. It also offers a few upgrades. |
|
Blacksmith |
Offers upgrades for armor, weapons, and gunpowder for Human troops. |
|
Farm |
Provides Food. |
|
Altar of Kings |
Train or revive Hero units. |
|
Arcane Sanctum |
Trains and upgrades Priests, Sorceresses, and Spellbreakers. |
|
Workshop |
Trains and upgrades Seige Engines, Flying Machines, and Mortar Teams. |
|
Scout Tower |
Provides vision. It can also be upgraded to attack nearby enemy troops. |
|
Gryphon Aviary |
Trains and upgrades Dragonhawk Riders and Gryphon Riders. |
|
Arcane Vault |
Allows you to purchase items for Heroes or units with Backpacks. |
For the early game as Humans, you’ll want to set up the Altar of Kings, Barracks, Lumber Mill, and a set of Farms. After these structures are built, send the Peasants to start harvesting resources while you train up the basic troops and a Hero unit.
Use the Hero unit and your troops to scout the map while expanding your base. After you’ve gathered a decent amount of resources, upgrade your Town Hall to access the second tier of buildings.
The Scout Tower can be a good investment in protecting secondary Gold Mines and Lumber Mills. Remember to upgrade it to Guard, Arcane or Cannon Tower to attack enemy troops.
Human Units in Warcraft 3: Reforged
While Heroes are important, Warcraft 3‘s skirmishes are won by basic units and troops. For humans, there are four key buildings that will allow you to train and upgrade troops: Barracks, Arcane Sanctum, Workshop, and Gryphon Aviary.
You’ll want to build Barracks as early as possible to create troops to scout the map and defend the base if needed. Train the troops and send your Hero with them to scout the map to find essential items and additional resources like Gold Mines that you can use to expand your base further.
Here are all the troops you can build when playing the Human faction in Warcraft 3: Reforged:
Production Building |
Unit Name |
Training Cost |
---|---|---|
Barracks |
Footman |
|
Rifleman |
|
|
Knight |
|
|
Arcane Sanctum |
Sorceress |
|
Priest |
|
|
Spellbreakers |
|
|
Workshop |
Flying Machine |
|
Mortar Team |
|
|
Siege Engine |
|
|
Gryphon Aviary |
Dragonhawk Rider |
|
Gryphon Rider |
|
Footmen and Riflemen will make up your army for the most part, since these troops are expendable. They cost minimal resources and allow you to poke at your opponent’s base while scouting the map. Use them to constantly harass your opponent and try to kill the enemy Peasants to slow down their production.
Once you unlock your other buildings, start working towards stronger troops like the Knight or the Gryphon Rider. These troops will help you siege the opponent’s base in the mid-late game stage.

Human Strategy in Warcraft 3: Reforged
Humans are a powerful faction in Warcraft 3: Reforged. It’s viable in all stages, from early to late game. After starting, you first want to get your essential structures built. This includes a Lumber Mill, a Barracks, an Altar of Kings, and two Farms. You’ll also want to build a Scout Tower and upgrade it to a Guard Tower to protect against opponent pokes.
In the meantime, train at least 3-4 extra Peasants to start harvesting Resources. You’ll want to have a steady influx of both Gold and Lumber. Choose the first Hero unit and train a couple of Footmen and Riflemen. This will be your primary scouting group.
Once you have a scout army prepared, start exploring the map. You’ll want to hunt down neutral camps to find items and level up your Hero unit. If you come across your opponent’s scout army, try to deal as much damage as possible. Aim for the normal troops instead of the Hero unit since they can always revive them.
By taking out your opponent’s troops, you are essentially slowing down their production, since they have to build a second scout army from scratch.
With the Human faction, you’ll want to build Scout Towers wherever possible. Once your primary Gold Mine runs out, send Peasants to a second Gold Mine after clearing the neutral camp to build a second Town Center. Build a Scout Tower nearby to defend against attacks while you harvest resources.
The key to victory is to keep building and gathering while exploring the map. Keep poking at your opponent’s troops and Peasants to slow down their economy. As you upgrade your troops, structures, and Hero units, you’ll soon have an army strong enough to siege.
