If you’re eager to travel around Mistria with speed and style, you’ll likely want to know how to get a mount in Fields of Mistria as quickly as possible. Not only can you get a cute horse-style mount called a Mistmare, but you can also customize your mount’s appearance to ride different animals around town.

Fields of Mistria: Request for Crystal Berries Guide
Crystal Berries are a forage item in Fields of Mistria, and you’ll need them to complete the “Request for Crystal Berries” side quest.
Of course, to get a mount in Fields of Mistria, you need to make significant story-quest progress and find a weathervane for Hayden as part of a new quest in the update.
How To Get A Mount In Fields of Mistria (Find the Weathervane Quest Guide)
To get a mount in Fields of Mistria, you must first complete the Repair Hayden’s Barn main story quest, which becomes available after completing the following seven main story quests:
- Repair the Bridge
- Restocking Mistria’s Food Reserves
- Repair the Mill (The Mill Restoration Project)
- Beautification Project
- Repair the General Store
- Repair the Beach Bridge
- Replenish Mistria’s Emergency Food Supply (Restocking Mistria’s Food Reserves Part 2)
Upgrading Hayden’s Barn takes a fair bit of work, as you’ll need 500 stone, 400 wood, 8 Iron Ingots, and 4,000 Tesserae to complete the Repair Hayden’s Barn quest. However, doing so not only enables you to get more animals in Fields of Mistria but also unlocks Hayden’s Find the Weathervane quest where you can get a mount.
Repair the Weathervane triggers via a cutscene when your character wakes up the following day after repairing Hayden’s farm. A powerful storm blows Hayden’s weathervane off his farm, and Hayden wants your help to track it down. To find the weathervane, head to The Narrows as marked on the map below, next to a horse statue that mysteriously popped up during the storm.
To get a mount, grab the weathervane, and interact with the horse statue to offer 100 Essence to cause a beautiful lilac horse called a Mistmare to appear, followed by a short Mistmare tutorial. You can ride the Mistmare mount immediately and while outdoors by pressing the horseshoe icon button (the = button as default on your keyboard) as pictured on the bottom-right of the screen. You can press the same button again to dismount and summon your mount as much as you like provided you are outdoors. You can also harvest items from the ground while riding your mount and don’t need to dismount, but you can’t enter buildings with a mount.
How To Change Mount Appearance In Fields of Mistria
If you want to change your mount’s appearance in Fields of Mistria, you can interact with the horse statue to buy a skills perk for your mount called Nice Ride using 205 Essence. This enables you to change your mount’s appearance in the animal menu by clicking the button pictured above, which shows which animals you can swap your mount’s appearance to. You can swap mount appearance to large animals on your farm, providing you already have these animals in Fields of Mistria to switch to and they have a friendship level of at least five hearts:
- Alpacas

Altogether, the update introduced three Tier 1 mount skills perk upgrades for you to purchase from the horse statue using Essence, as shown in the table below:
