In the current timeline of the DanMachi series, the Freya familia is heralded as the strongest. Not just for their combat-oriented adventurers, but for their applications of strategy and tactics and the sheer influence and power of their God.

Previously, the Zeus and Hestia familias ruled Orario as the strongest; however, after coming in contact with the One-Eyed Black Dragon, they were wiped out. At their weakest, the Freya and Loki familia swooped in to banish their gods from Orario, taking the title of strongest for themselves.

What Sets The Freya Familia Apart?

The Loyalty Of Their Members And The Shrewdness Of Their Goddess

While the Freya familia became the strongest in current-day Orario by taking power for themselves, doing so wasn’t easy. The process required them to be strong and prepared enough, and most of all, the smarts and wits of their goddess—Freya. As a goddess, Freya is highly intelligent and highly obsessive over whatever she wants. Her appetite for talented adventurers knows no bounds, and she does whatever she can to get them. As seen with Bell Cranel, for a talented adventurer that’s caught Freya’s eye, the goddess can and will charm the entirety of Orario to get that one person. Moreover, she’s not above obliterating an entire familia to claim a single individual, as seen with the Ishtar familia. Freya’s wit and obsessiveness over what she wants has no doubt brought her and her familia so far. Her ambitions know no grounds, and few can match her shrewdness.

Aside from Freya’s shrewdness, the intense loyalty her members have can be overwhelming. Despite Freya constantly being on the lookout for ‘new toys,’ her familia members always indulge her, even helping out when their goddess commands. The familia members might not all be on the same page, but their unwavering loyalty to Freya has built up the familia into a sturdy one over the years.

A Considerable Force For Destruction

While Freya is incredibly powerful and witty, a familia consists of more than just a god. The many talented adventurers in one’s familia directly impact the overall strength of the familia, as gods are prevented from directly taking action and influencing events with their abilities. For that, their members are needed, and Freya has done a good job at amassing powerful adventurers.

As a powerful, beautiful, and influential goddess, Freya is always on the lookout for powerful adventurers, but adventurers enchanted by her beauty and charm also flock to join her familia. Devoting themselves to their goddess, these members do their best to increase their level and abilities as quickly as possible so they can be noticed by Freya. Some key members of the Freya familia include Captain Ottar, the only current level 7 adventurer in all of Orario. Vice Captain Allen Fromel, the Dark elf Hogni Ragnar, and the Elf Hedin Selland, all of whom are level 6 adventurers. With countless other level 5 and 4 adventurers, the Freya familia boasts an incredible military might.

Changes After The Great Faction War

The Current Freya Familia

Freya’s obsession with Bell Cranel has always been prominent in the series; however, after the Goddess of Abundance Arc, Freya decides to abandon everything all for the sake of claiming Bell. Her actions eventually caused a Great Faction War between the Freya and Hestia familia, and the war had consequences that few would have imagined at the start. During the Great Faction War, it was revealed that Freya’s familia had roughly 5000 members, with about 150 members set to participate in the war. Of the 5000 members, the vast majority of them were non-combatants, as a familia needs more than just Warriors to survive and operate. However, about 50 of Freya’s familia members were second-rate adventurers. This was a fighting force that rivaled more than 10 middle-ranking familias. Interestingly, the Freya familia lost the war against the Hestia familia, and they were forced to disband.

This dropped their familia from being Orario’s strongest to non-existent. Following their loss and disbandment, Freya would ideally have been sent back to heaven; however, by maintaining her Syr Flova identity, she managed to remain a subordinate god to Hestia, the god of the familia that defeated her. Freya’s loss and the disbandment of her familia came as a surprise to many, but Freya had to pay the price for her actions. With this, the Loki familia became the strongest in Orario, and the Hestia Familia gained traction. All by using the Freya familia as a stepping stone, similar to how the Zeus and Hera familias were chased from Orario.
