HBO Max’s Harry Potter series is moving faster than a broomstick in a Quidditch match and now that the beloved book-turned-movie series is being adapted once more, the original actor, Fiona Shaw, who played Aunt Petunia in the films, has a comical reply in regard to the reboot, as well as the possibility of her character being recast. As Harry Potter fans begin the exciting journey of entering a brand-new franchise of highly popular books, movies and video games, Warner Bros.is starting over with a new series TV reboot, that that looks likely to run for a decade, at the very least.
While the series’ showrunners are currently on the lookout for who they’ll choose to play the likes of Harry, Ron and Hermione, they have at least found one actor that will fill the shoes of the iconic Dumbledore in the Harry Potter TV show, who has previously been played by actors Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, as well as Jude Law and Toby Regbo in Fantastic Beasts. The author of the books, J. K. Rowling, is seemingly “very involved” with the HBO series’ development. However, Rowling has been a controversial figure that has seen her land in hot water due to her stance on transgender issues, which has led many to steer clear in their support of Harry Potter products, including this series.

Aunt Petunia Actor Gives Comical Reply About Harry Potter TV Reboot
Talking to People, the legendary Irish actor, Fiona Shaw, gave a quick-witted and funny reply in response to a question about how she felt about the Harry Potter reboot while at the premiere of Bad Sisters season 2. Shaw jokingly exclaimed “How dare you!” before stating that she wished the series well. Shaw, who has starred in many films and TV shows that include Three Men and a Little Lady, Jane Eyre, The Avengers, HBO’s True Blood and as the ruthess Carolyn Martens in Killing Eve, also questioned whether the Harry Potter stories could actually be retold again so soon, but concluded with the fact that enough time had now past so the HBO series would be for a “whole new generation.”
“How dare you!”…”I mean, can stories be retold? They must be retold over time. It seems to me no time [has passed] since we told it, but maybe it’s [for] a whole new generation.”
Although, to some who might feel like the Harry Potter movies aren’t that old, it has already been 23 years since the very first movie released in 2001, so a fresh retelling is a great idea for the beloved franchise. The son of the original Dumbledore actor, Richard Harris, had previously stated that Warner Bros. should leave the series “alone” due to how great the movies were, and that nothing could top them, but it seems as though the studio has some solid ideas about taking the series to a new era.
As of now, the Harry Potter reboot doesn’t have a release date, and it might be some time before fans get a look at it. HBO and Max content Boss Casey Bloys has estimated an early 2027 premiere date for the show but also expressed that that timeline could change.
The Harry Potter TV series is in pre-production at HBO.
