Final Fantasy 14 has been rumored to have a mobile game in development for a while now, ever since an unannounced mobile title was given the greenlight for release in China. We had absolutely no idea how it would look, what it would play like, or how Square Enix would managed to cram five expansions worth of content onto our mobile phones, but thankfully, we don’t have to wait for details much longer.

Announced by none other than Final Fantasy 14 director Naoki Yoshia himself, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile is very real, but it’s probably not what we were all expecting. Rather than a straight port of the game, Final Fantasy 14 Mobile appears to be a completely brand new MMO, developd by a studio called Lightspeed Studios while under the direction of Square Enix and Yoshi-P.

In the game’s trailer, Yoshi-P explains that Final Fantasy 14 Mobile will faithfully recreate the story of the original game, as well as its duties and battle content. We can get even more info from the game’s recently published website, as it explains that battles have been adjusted for mobile, a variety of playable races will be available, and that nine jobs will be ready to be tried out at launch.

Square Enix’s popular MMO, Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn, has players step into the role of the Warrior of Light in the world of Eorzea. There, they find themselves testing their mettle against Primals, the Garlean Empire, the Ascians, and plenty of other threats.

This award-winning MMO now has multiple expansions to its name, with the most recent Endwalker expansion bringing the Hydaelyn/Zodiark arc to a close. Director and producer Yoshi-P has promised lots of plans for future content and the game has regular updates to keep players occupied.
