Key Takeaways

  • Cyberpunk 2077 won’t receive a PlayStation 5 Pro update.
  • Despite this, the game does see some improvements on the console due to its advanced hardware.
  • CD Projekt Red is currently working on The Witcher 4 and a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

CD Projekt Red has no intention of releasing a PlayStation 5 Pro update for Cyberpunk 2077. While dozens of popular PS5 titles are being enhanced for Sony’s newest console, Cyberpunk 2077 fans shouldn’t expect any new enhancements to the popular action RPG.

First released in December 2020, Cyberpunk 2077 was initially criticized for its countless glitches and bugs, with the console versions of the game being especially hard-hit by technical issues. Over the years, however, countless patches and updates have improved the title’s performance and transformed the once-maligned game into a success story for developer CD Projekt Red. As the studio looks to the future and the game’s proposed sequel, fans continue to spend countless hours in Night City. Unfortunately, the devs have some bad news for those eager to see some improvements to the game on the newest hardware.

In a new Twitter post, CD Projekt Red confirmed that the studio has no plans for a PlayStation 5 Pro patch for Cyberpunk 2077. As more and more popular titles have been confirmed to be enhanced for the recently released console, fans of the RPG have been increasingly vocal about potential upgrades for the game, such as ray tracing and new graphical modes. While Cyberpunk 2077 reportedly sees some improvements solely due to the PS5 Pro’s improved specs, players shouldn’t expect any dedicated changes to the action RPG anytime soon.

Cyberpunk 2077 Won’t Get a PlayStation 5 Pro Update

In May 2024, it was announced that Cyberpunk 2077 had officially ended development, with no employees working on the title in any capacity. Following Cyberpunk‘s incredible redemption arc, CD Projekt Red has moved on to The Witcher 4, which was officially confirmed in 2022. The title will be the first title in a multi-game saga, and over 400 employees are said to be working on the next game in the fantasy RPG series. In addition, Cyberpunk 2077‘s sequel, codenamed “Project Orion,” was also announced in 2022, though details remain scarce.

While Cyberpunk isn’t slated for any PS5 Pro upgrades, many beloved PS5 games are seeing big boosts on the new console, from Baldur’s Gate 3 to Lies of P. Released on November 7 for a hefty $700, the PlayStation 5 Pro features an upgraded GPU, AI-driven upscaling, and advanced ray tracing capabilities, promising smoother frame rates and higher fidelity graphics. Over 50 games were announced to be PS5 Pro Enhanced ahead of the system’s release, with another 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games also seeing improved performance thanks to PS5 Pro Game Boost.
