Monster-collection RPG Cassette Beasts has released a new update for November 2024 that adds an entirely new gauntlet mode for veteran players. The Cassette Beasts update also gives players more to do during multiplayer raids and fixes more than a dozen known issues with the game.
Published by Raw Fury, Cassette Beasts originally launched for PC in April 2023, with versions for Nintendo Switch and Xbox consoles following about a month later. Featuring retro, pixelated graphics and a monster collection system, Cassette Beasts has been compared to Pokemon but sets itself apart by relying heavily on a fusion system that lets players combine the 120 monsters present in the game into more than 14,000 fused combinations.

The biggest element of the update, which was launched on November 20, is Magikrab’s Gauntlet. This new gameplay system becomes available to players who have completed the quests titled Land of Confusion and Take Me On, and it can be picked up in Night’s Bridge Station for a chance to earn some powerful rewards. A trailer released alongside the update shows players boarding a train and participating in an endless string of randomized battles alongside their Cassette Beasts partners. According to the official patch notes, the new gauntlet will pit players against bosses and rivals that they’ve faced in the past, as well as adding in some new enemies in increasingly difficult match-ups. This gauntlet can be tackled solo or with an invited friend through the game’s online multiplayer system.
In addition to the new game mode, some special features in Cassette Beasts are now available to players during the game’s gauntlet mode and multiplayer raids. During these game modes, players are now able to use items and switch their partners’ NPC’s tape. They can also perform a fusion with their partners’ NPCs, which should provide a lot of extra versatility and strategic gameplay to the two game modes.
Another late-game addition comes from Ranger Wilma, who will now offer Sticker Fusion services in Cassette Beasts. Like with Magikrab’s Gauntlet, this feature only becomes available after players have completed both Land of Confusion and Take Me On, so new players shouldn’t expect to be able to make use of it immediately. Along with those features, the update allows players to get rid of quests on the Ranger Noticeboard that they no longer want to complete by speaking with Frankie in the Town Hall, though doing so will cost fused material.
Cassette Beasts 1.7 Gauntlet Update Patch Notes
New Additions
- Magikrab’s Gauntlet has been added. This is a new gameplay system that is available in Night’s Bridge Station after completing the Land of Confusion and Take Me On quests.
- In the gauntlet you face an endless series of randomised and increasingly difficult battles against friends and foes old and new.
- You can take on the gauntlet on your own, or invite a friend through online multiplayer to take on the challenges together.
- Ranger Wilma now provides a Sticker Fusion service after you’ve completed Land of Confusion and Take Me On. Sticker Fusion allows you to move rare and uncommon attributes you like from one sticker to another.
- After Frankie has completed her training, you can speak to her in the Town Hall to clear the ranger noticeboard of quests you don’t want. This costs a certain amount of Fused Material, and you get no quest rewards.
- During multiplayer raids and gauntlet battles you can now use items, fuse with your partner NPC, and switch to your partner NPC’s tape.
- Steam Workshop support has been added.
Fixes
- Spitzfyre’s stats have been increased to be in line with normal values for a final stage remaster.

- Scripted battles’ RNG is re-seeded when you re-attempt them after fleeing or defeat. This won’t affect the majority of players, but is noted here for the speedrunning community.
- Fixed the game using an unusually large amount of memory if you cross the overworld loading boundary and camp in Lakeside.
- Fixed common Peekaboo stickers sometimes not stacking.
- Fixed Copy That copying the wrong opponent if the intended target is a fusion. (Note: it copies only one member of the fusion.)
- Custom/Random Starter into Machine Cursed Change the Record no longer triggers automatic passives like Custom Starter on the tape you switch to.
- Fixed Clobber’s AP cost being too high for it to be useful.
- Fixed avatars of other players during online multiplayer sometimes warping into scenes at the wrong position.
- Randomness is now used as a speed tie break during PvP battles, instead of the host player taking priority.
- Fixed Fission Power not respecting the temporarily-imposed level limits during raid battles.
- Fixed a bug that allowed already-hacked fusion raids to be hacked again.
- Fixed stickers with the ‘compatible with any tape’ attribute being allowed in no-attribute PvP battles when not compatible without the attribute.
- Fixed an overflow bug that could occur if you stack many many stat-boosting effects and passives.
- Fixed a typo in the Harbourtown Heritage Centre.
- Dual Wield can no longer be used to smuggle damaging/debuffing moves past Machine Curse.
