While every map or challenge can have a use for at least one type of weapon, some are significantly more useful on initial runs or across maps for their damage and consistency. Others require a bit of a learning curve to get used to or are otherwise going to force you to rely on towers and units to protect your castle.

9

Blood Wand

Easily the most harmful choice in Thronefall, the Blood Wand is the only weapon that gives you multiple debuffs and encourages you to put yourself in danger. Although the wand can potentially have an incredibly fast attack speed, it requires you to stand perfectly still or risk taking a decent amount of damage and slowing yourself down with its ability.

The best case scenario for this weapon is against enemies with massive health pools that are also slow moving and won’t deal ranged damage towards you, which makes the final boss on Frostsee the only enemy on that short list. Unless all five of your perk choices are ones that correct this weapon, it is easily the most difficult to use.

8

Lightning Staff

Although the Lightning Staff is a good weapon in theory, attacking multiple enemies at once and summoning strong attacks, its overall stats weaken it far too much to be usable. The worst being its attack speed is egregiously slow, and has an oddly specific attack pattern that means enemies can’t be too far apart or close together.

The ability also has a high cooldown, despite having a fairly tiny circle that isn’t strong enough to one-shot most enemies. The only use for this weapon is that it can allow you to force large groups of enemies to follow you around, which could be handy for specific challenges, but is overall a weak weapon.

7

Shadow Codex

Like the Lightning Staff, the Shadow codex has a very slow attack speed that targets individual units until eventually you spread out your damage across as many units as possible. However, the main attack damage is almost nonexistent, forcing you to rely on the ability to kill creatures.

Fortunately, the Shadow Codex’s main ability is one of the strongest in the game, dealing enough to one-shot even some of the stronger enemies with a decently small cooldown. On its own, this weapon is fairly weak, but with attack speed and ability cooldown perks, it can be strong enough to aid your towers and troops.

6

Light Spear

The weakest melee focused weapon, the Light Spear is more reliable than the staff, wand, or codex, but falls short in ways that other melee weapons outperform. Namely, its main attack and ability are both single target attacks that require close range, but are weaker compared to the Battle Axe or Falchion.

It makes up for this by slowing down fast moving targets such as horse riders and Hunterlings, allowing your archers and towers to pick them off before they deal too much damage to your structures. The ability also allows you to heal yourself, scaling with your health and essentially not allowing you to die while active.

5

Heavy Sword

While the Heavy Sword has a slower attack pattern than the Light Spear, it deals slightly more damage while also having an ability to swing in an arc, dealing damage to multiple units at once. This ability also lets you target airborne enemies, which can be crucial on specific maps.

It also outpaces the light spear in health regeneration and also adds a max health bonus to protect you from enemies in melee distance. The unfortunate side of the Heavy Sword is that its attack speed can be almost too slow, requiring you to take perks to correct it.

4

Bow And Dagger

The starting weapon with the most diversity among the better weapons, the Bow and Dagger has a decent, ranged auto attack with an ability that deals strong damage in melee distance. When targeting low health creatures, the ability lowers its cooldown enough to let you trigger it fairly quickly.

Overall, the bow deals solid damage, has a fairly long range, and scales easily with almost all upgrades and perks that affect damage and attack speed. However, if you are looking for more varied or interesting gameplay, there are better options.

3

Falchion And Traps

The Falchion and Traps is one of the more unique weapons in that it requires a bit of strategy to use but has impressive stats that make the learning curve worth it. Namely, the cooldown between the triple attack can be hard to navigate but deals very strong damage that can wipe almost any unit type if you land all three strikes.

The traps are even more difficult to use, but are perfect for defending walls and towers, laying traps that enemies don’t navigate around. These traps can even deal damage to airborne units despite being a bear trap lying on the ground, and don’t need to be fully set to be effective.

2

Battle Axe

The Battle Axe is easily the strongest melee weapon in the game in that it combines the best parts of other melee weapons into a death-dealing machine. The first thing you’ll notice is that it attacks incredibly fast in all directions while not sacrificing damage.

The main ability is a shield that makes you impervious to damage while still letting you deal damage, allowing you to stand in the middle of a crowd of enemies long enough to wipe them out and still have enough health to sprint away. The only shortfall of the Battle Axe is that it can’t let you target airborne units, but that’s what towers and archers are for.

1

Potion Vials

Ironically one of the weaker weapons in terms of dealing damage, the Potion Vials instead make you the ultimate support, healing your units or debuffing large swathes of units enough to let your towers pick them off. The auto-attack is the best of both worlds, simultaneously healing your units while damaging units in a circle larger than Lightning Staff’s awful ability.

Potion Vial’s ability also heals while dealing damage by creating a massive circle around yourself that also slows down units to a crawl for a significant duration. The only time you should avoid the Potion Vials is if you want to rely on your own damage to survive waves or protect buildings.
