Weak Sauce is the best upgrade to unlock early in the game because it grants you additional XP for removing weakpoints on enemy robots. Scan them, fire weapons at their weakpoints, and you’ll start earning more XP.
Since a lot the progression in Lego Horizon Adventures is hidden behind levelling up, any upgrade that’ll allow you to do it quickly is more than welcome.

While the first couple of chapters in Lego Horizon Adventures are pretty straight forward, you’ll start to come up against harder bosses as you reach the later levels and start trying your hand against the Apex Predators to earn Red Bricks.
To keep your health topped up, you can unlock the Free Lunch upgrade, which introduces a chance for enemies you have inflicted fire, ice, or shock damage on to drop healing berries. Therefore, you won’t have to go scrambling to the nearest bush whenever you need to heal a little.

In a similar vein to the Gadget Surprise upgrade, unlocking Rare Surprise lets you start a mission with a rare weapon already equipped. You don’t need to wait until one drops from an enemy or chest.
Some rare weapons are a lot better than others, with which you get being a complete lottery. Just keep your fingers crossed for one that does elemental damage, as they’re particularly good against powerful enemies.

Any upgrade that gets you more XP is worth unlocking, but Gadgeteer is the best once you get to the latter levels in Lego Horizon Adventures. It awards you more XP when you use gadgets or rare weapons to defeat enemies.
You’ll start getting access to rare weapons and gadgets a lot more often as you progress through the story. Also, the tier improvements for the Gadgeteer upgrade are excellent, really boosting the amount of XP you’re getting as you defeat enemies.

Until later in the game, or against the Apex Predators you face in the hunts, Lego Horizon Adventures isn’t difficult. However, you’ll get to a point where you need to heal regularly to stay confident in the fight.
Unlocking Berry Good will help you immeasurably, as it adds an additional berry to every bush at each tier you unlock. Therefore, you’ll be able to get multiple uses out of each one you find, which will help you when you only have access to a couple during boss fights.

To add to some of the other upgrades, Gadgets A-Gogo makes both gadgets and rare weapons easier to find. That means they’ll pop out of hidden chests more often and enemies will drop them more regularly when you defeat them.
You’ll want this upgrade because gadgets and rare weapons are significantly better than the default weapons each playable character gets. You’ll be able to deal elemental damage and do more physical damage, as well as be able to protect yourself with the gadgets.
