A round of Fortnite takes place over a massive map that can take ages to travel across. Walking from end to end can make the game feel like a chore, which is why there are special pieces of equipment known as mobility items to help turn that trek into a joyous road trip, rather than a monotonous nature hike.

There have been plenty of mobility items throughout Fortnite’s long lifespan, but some have been better than others. So here are the items that we believe are the best of the best when it comes to zipping across the map.

Shockwave Grenade
An Oldie But A Goodie
The Shockwave Grenade has been around for so long that it’s become a staple of Fortnite and is often used by its top players. While other mobility items have come out and made the Shockwave Grenade look inferior in comparison, most of those items end up vaulted upon the start of a new season. Meanwhile, the Shockwave Grenade has stuck around, making it one of the most reliable items in the game’s history.

Chainsaw
Sometimes The Dumbest Option Is The Best Option
Here’s the thing about the Chainsaw: It’s fun. It’s incredibly fun. You travel along the ground riding on top of the chainsaw, which is about as silly of a visual as you can get from Fortnite. And if you happen to run into an enemy, you can then wield the chainsaw to slice and dice them like a certain leather-faced horror icon.
The sad thing is that it isn’t as good at actually being a mobility item when it comes to covering ground, since it will eventually run out of gas. But while it may not be the best, it is one heck of a good time.

Kinetic Blade
Slicing And Dicing
The Kinetic Blade is a sword that lets you dash through the air and slash enemies. What hurts the Kinetic Blade is that it came out after the Shockwave Hammer, which is a tough act to follow.

The blade also took a bit too much time to charge up its dash and only had three charges (and its rare iteration only had two.) Still a fun weapon to use, but nothing compared to that hammer.

Nitro Fists
Shoryuken!
Do you want to punch something? Do you want to surge forward in the air? Do you want to have big fists while you do both of those things? Then Nitro Fists would be your jam.
These fists looked dumb but allowed you to travel horizontally and vertically via a rocket-powered uppercut. They fit the over-the-top theme of Chapter 5, Season 3, and are the closest that Overwatch‘s Doomfist will likely ever get to being in Fortnite.
8
Rocket Ram
Enjoy Your Crash Landing
The Rocket Ram is another absurd item that shot you up into the air and then brought you down to earth with a giant crash. Any poor fool caught underneath you would be sent flying, which could lead to some comical eliminations if they were sent off of a high ledge.
It was great for traveling up to great heights, covering ground, smashing into opponents, or destroying structures. Just a great, dumb fun item, which is exactly what you want in Fortnite.
7
Shuri’s Black Panther Claws
Cat-Scratch Fever
A lot of the best mobility items are inspired by Marvel characters. These claws are a great example of that. When used, they allow you to run faster, air-dash, and melee attack enemies.
As you wear these claws, a meter charges up. When it’s full, you can activate it to supercharge the claws and temporarily give yourself unlimited stamina.
6
Web Shooters/Grapple Glove
We All Just Want To Be Spider-Man
Swinging around like Spider-Man will always be fun. So, when Fortnite threw in the Web Shooters – and later the inferior albeit still good Grapple Gloves – they became incredibly popular due to how good they felt to use and how effective they were at getting around.
A fantastic mobility item that is only upstaged by a few better options.
5
Iron Man’s Flight Kit
Faster Than A Speeding Bullet
Another overpowered Marvel item. This kit is so powerful that you can fly from one end of the map to the other before you run out of power.

If Kingdom Hearts collabs with Fortnite, these are the characters we need to see.
It’s like a much better version of the Wings Of Icarus, complete with a similar aerial attack. And if you equip the Combat Kit with it, you can even perform an Unibeam blast in the air, just like Tony Stark.
4
War Machine’s Hover Jets
Float Like A Butterfly, Shoot Like A Bee
The best of the Marvel mobility items. In fact, it was so overpowered that many players celebrated when it was vaulted. This is essentially the ultimate form of the Jetpack allowing you to hover around and even use your weapons while in mid-air.
When you combine this with War Machine’s Arsenal and Auto Turrets, you’ll become a flying nightmare to deal with.
3
ODM Gear
Sorry Spidey, This Is How You Swing
Web-slinging like Spider-Man may be fun, but it has nothing on the majesty that is the ODM Gear from Attack On Titan. When this item dropped, Fortnite stopped being about who had the best aim and became all about who could swing around the map the quickest.
If you’ve never used ODM Gear, imagine the Web Shooters multiplied. It not only swings you around, but also slingshots you forward to give you a burst of speed. If that wasn’t enough, you can grapple enemies to perform a melee attack. Bring it back Epic!
2
Airbending
Ride Like The Wind
Airbending is just ridiculous. Tying into the Avatar: The Last Airbender event, this item forms a circle of air around you which then lets you zoom around the map at ludicrous speeds and perform a jump to reach higher planes.
Hitting an opponent using this item is near impossible as you become a living vehicle that could run circles around everyone. Perhaps a tad overpowered, but a lot of fun.
1
Shockwave Hammer
The GOAT Of Bashing Things
When it comes to mobility items, the Shockwave Hammer stands above the rest because it offers up the best balance of offensive and mobility abilities. Offensively, the hammer can smash enemies for decent damage. If that was all the Shockwave Hammer did that would be enough, but it also allows you to bounce on the ground – and on water – to gain height and cover wide distances.
Plus, for some reason, you could hold multiple hammers in your inventory. If you wanted to, you could pick up nothing but Shockwave Hammers allowing you to near-infinitely bounce and bash enemies. That’s why the Shockwave Hammer is the undisputed king of mobility items.
