Best Gear in Temtem Swarm

Best Gear in Temtem Swarm

As you attempt each of Temtem: Swarm’s deadly challenges, fending off hordes of Tems in the process, you’ll be able to acquire a number of different upgrades. Whenever your chosen Tem levels up, you can choose from an assortment of techniques and gear to improve their capabilities. While techniques are highly valuable and expand your options for attacking the incoming swarm, Gear instead provides passive bonuses that can modify and empower those techniques or the Tem themselves.

Temtem: Swarm has a great assortment of available gear at the time of writing, but not all gear was created equal, so this guide will break down some of the most universally helpful items you can acquire during a run. Naturally, when considering what gear to add to a build, it’s important to take your playstyle and the Tem you’re using into consideration, as some equipment will prove much more valuable in certain builds and with certain playstyles.

Best Gear in Temtem: Swarm (In General)

Temtem Swarm_Volgan Scale

This section will discuss the best gear to pick in most circumstances, regardless of your chosen Tem and general playstyle. These are near-universally applicable when trying to strengthen your build, making them solid picks in most situations:

  • Holster: The Holster is a simple but powerful piece of gear that adds one extra projectile to any ranged techniques you have. This affects a surprising number of techniques, including several that don’t fire a normal projectile (like Houchic’s Tentacle Slash, which summons lashing tentacles near enemies.) This is almost always a fantastic choice, unless you’re avoiding ranged techniques for one reason or another.
  • Volgon Scale: The Volgon Scale increases all damage dealt by your Tem, which makes it one of the simplest and most universally applicable pieces of gear in the game. This will enhance any technique that does damage, so it’s always a solid option. It can even stack with element-specific damage boosters like the Third Eye or Motherboard to pump your damage even higher.
  • Sonar: The Sonar increases the area of your attacks, which means projectiles will be bigger and the AOE for any AOE effects will get larger. This is fantastic for tearing through the swarm and holding off enemies more efficiently, making this a fantastic choice.

  • Stimpack: If you’re firing any projectiles, Stimpack is fantastic. It increases your fire rate, greatly reducing the delay between shots for any attack with multiple projectiles. This gets even better if you manage to reduce the cooldown time for that attack too.
  • Kismet Lens: A good choice if you enjoy critical hits, the Kismet Lens raises your critical probability, making critical hits more lightly and helping you to dish out extra damage.
  • Reanimation Kit: Sometimes the swarm might outmaneuver or overwhelm you, and your Tem will be defeated. This is where the Reanimation Kit comes in, offering two revives when fully upgraded to help you escape from otherwise fatal situations. While it doesn’t help with actually fighting the swarm, it will at least help you get back into the fight if things go wrong. This is a bit less useful in multiplayer since you can be revived by the efforts of your allies.
  • Kusanagi: A bit more situational than the previous options, Kusanagi increases your damage against Mino-Bosses and bosses, making it an excellent choice in the mid-late game. This is especially true if you’ve unlocked extra Gear Slots on your chosen Tem, allowing you to activate all of your technique synergies while leaving a slot free to pick this up.

While these pieces of gear are useful in almost any situation, it’s important to note that many Tem techniques can be upgraded if you pick up the appropriate piece of gear. For example, the Tornado technique can be upgraded into Tornado+ if you have the Protein Bar in one of your gear slots, allowing you to fire multiple tornadoes in a cone and sweep through groups of enemies easily.

Because of this mechanic, it’s often worth prioritising gear that is used in these Synergies early on, allowing you to access these powerful techniques more quickly.
