One Piece: Who Is Imu?

There are plenty of strange characters in One Piece, but one of the most mysterious is Imu, the secret ruler of the world.

One of the last, and quite possibly the largest islands Luffy and the Straw Hats have encountered is that of Elbaf. Long rumored and often hinted at, there is plenty of mystery surrounding this storied land, so let’s take a look at what we know so far about this gargantuan island that is on the way to the One Piece.

What Is Elbaf?

One of the most important kingdoms in One Piece is one that has only been talked about or seen in flashbacks throughout the manga’s expansive history. This island nation is home to giants, beings that resemble humans in shape and form, although they are several times larger than humans and can live for hundreds of years.

This nation of giants has long been a dream destination for Luffy and Ussop, ever since the crew encountered two giants, Dorry and Brogy during the Little Garden Arc. The land of Elbaf is covered in mountains as far as the eye can see, but even they are dominated by the Treasure Tree Adam, a titanic tall tree that eclipses the majority of the island itself. So large is the Treasure Tree Adam that its canopy stretches past cloud levels.

One Piece: What Is Haki?

Haki is one of the most important concepts in One Piece, but it can get pretty confusing at moments. Learn the basics of it in this Explainer.

Fun little fact, when Franky stole 200,000,000 Beri from the Straw Hat Pirates back in the Water 7 Arc, he used the money to buy wood from the tree, becoming the basis for the Thousand Sunny.

On Elbaf is the nation of Warland, which is often claimed to be the strongest nation in the world, thanks to the natural strength of the giants. It is rumored that the very concept of war comes from this land, as it has a long history of violence and warfare.

The New World of One Piece has plenty of fascinating and dangerous islands and nations to explore, with few as perilous as Elbaf. This mountainous region is found near the end of the second half of the Grand Line, in the most treacherous oceans in the world.

Few pirates, or anyone else for that matter, have managed to travel to the remote island, partly because the path they’d have to take is so dangerous and partly because the way is mostly unknown, thanks to its remote location. To get to Elbaf, pirates would have to travel east of Wano and northeast of Egghead island, to locations that the Straw Hat Pirates have been to recently.

Since most of the island sits underneath the canopy of the Treasure Tree Adam, much of the island is influenced by its reach. The land around the Treasure Tree Adam is known to the giants as the Underworld, which seems to be covered mostly by snow and storms. Blizzards rage through the land, which may be caused by the lack of sunlight from dense foliage.

One Piece: Who Is Joy Boy?

From myth to reality, the liberator finally returns from the dead!

Split into two distinct regions, the Treasure Tree Adam has a section of lower branches, and separated by a large distance, an upper canopy.

At the first level of branches is where the majority of giants live, sheltered by the leaves of the tree. Here the nation of Warland has developed into a thriving society, with the majority of the kingdom found among the branches.

Interestingly, a massive longsword appears to be thrust into the branches of the tree, stretching from the upper regions of the tree all the way down to the ground. Who or what wielded this impossibly large sword is unknown and may never be revealed.

Since the island of Elbaf is inhabited primarily by giants, you can expect that most of the giants in One Piece call this island home. Some of Luffy’s close companions hail from this nation, and a major villain that has been talked about for some time also comes from this land.

This is not a comprehensive list of all the giants in Elbaf of course. As the Straw Hats explore the island there are bound to be tons of new giants that will help join the crew.
