Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is unfortunately experiencing a case of déjà vu this week, as it has been discovered that the game actually runs worse on the recently released PS5 Pro. In a video from Digital Foundry, it was revealed that Star Wars Jedi: Survivor experiences some significant performance issues on the beefed-up version of the Sony console.
After the game’s controversial launch last year that was also tied to performance issues, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has unfortunately found itself back in the same boat with the PS5 Pro. From flickering textures to lighting issues, Star Wars Jedi Survivor on the PS5 Pro has been one of several games that has been plagued by graphics problems on the new hardware. While it isn’t the only title to face bad performance, this is an especially harsh blow for developer Respawn’s Star Wars story, as it was an opportunity to right the wrongs of its notorious PC launch.

Major Problems From the Start Hurt Respawn’s Jedi Adventure
Last year, the highly-anticipated sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order didn’t have the launch Respawn was hoping for, at least on PC. Player feedback regarding the performance issues in the game caused some to review-bomb Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on Steam. While the game has been fixed for most players since then, getting caught up in the same controversy with such a highly-anticipated console puts Respawn in a tough situation. A solid PS5 Pro launch could have ignited more interest in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but even today, the game is still causing problems for some PC players. It may not be as prevalent of an issue after its various updates, but a recent negative review on Steam from PrinceXavieR states the game still features an “onslaught of stutters and frame drops” when they try to play.
It is believed that the PS5 Pro’s PSSR feature is responsible for causing visual issues. The intent of PSSR is to upscale textures for a sharper image by using AI.
Adding the PS5 Pro into the mix is a double whammy of bad press when it comes to performance. What’s more unfortunate is that, even with performance issues, many have enjoyed the gameplay and story of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, but hurdles as significant as flickering textures and problems with lighting can quickly take a player out of the experience. Publisher EA has addressed the situation, stating that it is being “actively investigated”, but there has yet to be any official word on when to expect a complete fix.

Sony’s Enhanced PS5 is Off to a Strong Start
Despite the eye-watering price tag attached to the console, sales for the PS5 Pro are looking positive, with early numbers showing it is comparable to the PS4 Pro. While the various performance issues for certain titles are disappointing, the aforementioned games will hopefully be fixed sooner, rather than later, so each game can get the advantage of showing off the console’s specs early on in its life cycle.
Some affected games, like
Black Ops 6
, are facing “shimmering” graphics issues.
There is no clear indication when these graphics issues plaguing some PS5 Pro games will end, but Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a title that is likely hurt the most by the controversy. Having a repeat of such a frustrating issue is disappointing for both players and its developers. Only time will tell if the texture and lighting problems get better, but until then, some may want to wait to play Star Wars Jedi: Survivor on the PS5 Pro until it’s properly optimized.
