Silent Hill 2 Devs Are “Working On” PS5 Pro Graphical Issues

Silent Hill 2 Devs Are "Working On" PS5 Pro Graphical Issues

Key Takeaways

  • Silent Hill 2 and Star Wars Jedi: Survivor have been accused of looking worse on PS5 Pro, with blurry textures plaguing each game’s Performance Mode.
  • Bloober Team and EA have now issued statements about the graphical issues, claiming they’re “working on it” and “actively investigating” respectively.

Earlier this week, Silent Hill 2 fans that had picked up a PS5 Pro went to try out their favorite game on more powerful hardware, but came away bitterly disappointed. That’s because the Performance Mode in Silent Hill 2 ended up making the game look worse than the standard PS5 version, with fuzzy and blurry textures surrounding water, along with other very noticeable issues.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is another title affected by these issues, with the same blurry textures popping up when played in Performance Mode. It was quickly figured out that the PS5 Pro’s PSSR AI upscaling is likely the main cause, though we were yet to hear from either Silent Hill 2 developer Bloober Team or EA about whether they were investigating or looking into possible solutions.

Thankfully, both have now released public statements following complaints, explaining that they’re looking into the issues. Bloober Team was a lot less formal about its statement, responding to a concerned fan that the team is currently “working on it”, while EA simply posted a statement to the EA Star Wars Twitter account explaining to fans that it’s “actively investigating” the issue.

Unfortunately, neither Bloober Team nor EA actually provide fans with any idea of when this problem will be fixed, but if you absolutely need to play these games right now, you can stick to Quality Mode instead. You’ll most likely have to sacrifice your frame rate, but fans have noticed that the graphical issues are pretty much non-existent in the mode.

If you don’t want to do that, you can amuse yourself by diving deep into the Silent Hill 2 lore, provided by none other than original art director, Masahiro Ito. He’s been dropping all sorts of lore bombs on Twitter recently, explaining that every monster in the game besides Pyramid Head is female, and confirming the fan theory that the “Clean” Lakeview Hotel is actually The Otherworld.
