Margaret Qualley's Horror Movie Victorian Psycho Casts Thomasin McKenzie

After watching Margaret Qualley in the highly anticipated 2024 body horrormovie The Substance, fans are no doubt looking forward to keeping up with the rest of her career. According to Deadline, Qualley’s next horror movie, Victorian Psycho, recently cast Thomasin McKenzie.

McKenzie is going to portray a nursemaid in Victorian Psycho. As is clear from the title, the movie follows Qualley’s character, Winifred Notty, a governess who begins working at Ensor House. Dan Kagan, who produced Significant Other and the Nicolas Cage film Longlegs, will produce the movie.

Victorian Psycho joins a long and impressive list of horror movies and games set in the Victorian era. The movie takes place in 1858. The story might remind horror fans of Mike Flanagan’s Netflix series The Haunting of Bly Manor, which is also about a governess who begins working at a haunted manor and notices eerie things happening. This is always an ideal setting for a horror movie since it immediately feels powerful, atmospheric, and unnerving.

Thomasin McKenzie as Elosie in Last Night In Soho

Qualley has added quite a few horror movies to her resume. Besides The Substance, she also starred in Sanctuary. Zachary Wigon, who directed the latter, is also directing Victorian Psycho. Qualley’s other notable roles include main character Alex Russell in the emotional 2021 Netflix miniseries Maid, Jill Garvey in The Leftovers, and Felicity in the 2023 drama Poor Things, which also stars Emma Stone. As for McKenzie, she previously starred in JoJo Rabbit, The Power of the Dog, the fashionable thriller Last Night In Soho, and Joy. Since Qualley and McKenzie’s characters are both working at the same manor, audiences can guess they will become friends and work together against the outside threat. It will be cool to see how their characters’ dynamic grows as the story continues.

Horror fans can definitely look forward to seeing Qualley take on a role in another creepy story. According to IMDb, her other upcoming movies include Happy Gilmore 2, Honey Don’t!, Blue Moon, and Huntington. Horror fans and film critics were impressed by Qualley’s performance in The Substance, which has a 90% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It’s clear that Qualley has a knack for the horror genre and should definitely appear in more scary tales.

While waiting for more news about Victorian Psycho, Qualley fans can watch (or rewatch) The Substance and learn more about how she felt while filming the body horror film. The actress gave a particularly compelling interview to USA Today and said of the last scene:

“It was torture. I had this awesome team of prosthetic artists that put it on me and took it off of me and got me through the day and made me laugh a couple of times while I was just on the brink of panic.”

According to Deadline, filming for Victorian Psycho will take place in February 2025.
