Key Takeaways
- Fans have rallied to save Bosch: Legacy with a petition due to its unexpected cancelation by Amazon.
- Despite Michael Connelly’s optimism, it’s unlikely that the Jerry Edgar spin-off will happen.
- Amazon appears determined to end the Bosch-verse and focus on other projects, disappointing fans.
Bosch: Legacy is bowing out after three seasons, but fans are fighting to save it with a petition on change.org. News of the petition has spread to Michael Connelly, the author of the books and one of the executive producers on Bosch: Legacy, and he was supportive of the fans’ efforts to save the show. Connelly also recently opened up in an interview about the Jerry Edgar spin-off, which was axed soon after Legacy’s cancelation. He said he was still upbeat it could happen if the upcoming spin-off Ballard does well.
As much as it was promising to hear Michael Connelly acknowledge the Save Bosch: Legacy petition, and raise hopes of the Jerry Edgar spin off happening, is it more a case of hoping rather than actually thinking it will happen? Amazon has shown no interest in expanding the Bosch-verse, and seems determined to close it down and hedge all their bets on Ballard. Connelly is right to be positive about Jerry Edgar’s prospects, but will the fans and the rest of the creative team be left disappointed?

Michael Connelly Clearly Wants The Jerry Edgar Spin-Off To Happen But It Doesn’t Look Likely At All
Fans were absolutely devastated to hear the news that the third season of Bosch: Legacy would be the final one. The PR team at Amazon tried to convince everyone it was all part of the plan, with Harry Bosch still set to feature in the Ballard spin-off. However, Titus Welliver’s comments on Katie Sackhoff’s podcast suggested Bosch: Legacy‘s ending wasn’t a creative decision, and the petition to save the show gathered momentum. Amazon’s Bosch: Legacy ending statement promised more to come despite the cancelation, then they axed the Jerry Edgar spin-off. Despite this, Michael Connelly revealed it might still happen in a recent interview with The Irish Star:
I don’t wanna say it’s on the backburner but Amazon is gonna see how Ballard does and then, hopefully, we’ll be able to bring Jerry back
It’s great to have hope, but let’s face it, the Jerry Edgar spin-off isn’t happening. Not now, and not even if Ballard becomes a huge success. Amazon have made their minds up about the Bosch-verse, and they are focusing their attentions on giving every sub-par show on their platform spin-offs and brand-new seasons, just to rub salt into the wounds of Bosch: Legacy fans. Unfortunately, this is the future of television unless something drastic happens to create change. Amazon will give the go ahead to the shows they think they should be making, while ignoring what fans actually want.

When a series has run for over ten years, like Bosch and Bosch: Legacy have done collectively, the creative team should get to choose when it comes to an end. Surely, the team have earned that after such a long and successful run. This isn’t a franchise that has run out of creative ideas and no longer captivates audiences: Bosch: Legacy has consistently brought in good viewing figures on Freevee, and it’ll continue to do so when the third and final season airs. Of course, it’s been all smiles on the surface, and ‘thanks for everything Amazon’, but if fans look closer, the reality is far from that. Here’s what Connelly said later on in the interview with The Irish Star:
We didn’t get the word Bosch: Legacy was not going to go on until we were well into producing Ballard.
Ten years and 98 episodes, and Amazon didn’t even give Michael Connelly and his team the chance to end Harry Bosch’s solo story in a proper way. Why didn’t they just tell Connelly and his team that Bosch: Legacy season 3 would be the final one so they could work towards an ending? This is what happened at the end of the original series, but instead, filming wrapped on Bosch: Legacy season 3, and they had to wait for an answer, with all those creative plans gestating ahead of a possible fourth season. All those plot threads that are now destined to be left unanswered. When Bosch: Legacy season 3 ends, fans will have a better idea of what they are missing out on. Of course, Ballard could bring some of these characters back, but if Harry Bosch has to settle for guest spots in the spin-off, don’t expect the rest of the characters to get much more than that. Michael Connelly should have the ultimate say on what happens with Bosch Legacy and Jerry Edgar, and every other aspect of the Bosch television universe.
