The region of Natlan in Genshin Impact is home to numerous fantastical creatures, some of which are highly dangerous, others cuter than they have any right to be. The Avatar of Lava is the former, a docile creature more content to lay beneath the earth but that is quick to attack when approached. Finding these dangerous elementals will take you all around Natlan, but the rewards are worth it.

You’ll find Avatars of Lava in almost every corner of the Natlan region, sometimes guarded by wildlife, other times hiding in crevices and caves, well off the beaten path.
Where To Find Avatars Of Lava
There are fourteen Avatars of Lava in Natlan, and to get to all of them, you’ll want as many active Teleport Waypoints as possible. If you’re new to the region, take some time exploring and unlocking all the fast travel points to make farming the Avatars a simpler task.
Avatars of Lava come in two forms: Eroding and Fluid. You’ll know you’re looking at an Eroding Avatar of Lava if you can see what looks like a brighter pink pile of rocks, one you’d think would be breakable. Approaching will cause the monster to awaken and attack.
A Fluid Avatar of Lava looks about like you’d expect: a mostly liquidous creature made of animate lava. Fluid Avatars lack the large number of rocks their Eroded cousins boast
The list below details the location of each Avatar of Lava:
Avatar of Lava |
Description |
---|---|
Location 1 |
Southwest of the river in Huitztli Hill is a crevice between the two mountains. One of the Eroding Avatars of Lava is at the western edge of the crevice next to some breakable chunks of iron. The second is near the eastern edge of the crevice, hanging around with some Saurians. |
Location 2 |
At the westernmost point of the caves of the Sulfurous Veins, in the corner at the lowest point, is another Eroded Avatar of Lava. |
Location 3 |
On the northern edge of the Sulfurous Veins is a ledge extending out a bit below the high ground. You’ll find the Eroded Avatar of Lava near some Saurian eggs and a bit of graffiti. |
Location 4 |
To reach this Avatar of Lava, you need to progress the quest Ripe for Trouble. To reach the cave with the quest, head west from the Tepeacac Rise waypoint until you reach a tree. The cave is in a crevice south of the tree. Once you progress Ripe for Trouble enough to reach the lowest part of the Flamegranat Tree with the liquid phlogiston lake, you’ll find the Fluid Avatar of Lava on the southern tunnel leading east. |
Location 5 |
The next pair of Eroded Avatars of Lava are on the eastern plateau of the Tepeacac Rise. Take a Tepetlisaurus and scale the wall if you haven’t reached the waypoint atop the plateau. Head to the southern tip and you should see the two Eroded Avatars resting between a group of bent trees. |
Location 6 |
Another pair of Eroded Avatars of Lava sit southeast of the Tepeacac Rise plateau, further southeast of the crater where you can start the quest To Wish Upon a Star. In a rare twist, there’s even a Precious Chest there for defeating them the first time. |
Location 7 |
You’ll find this Eroded Avatar of Lava along the southeastern Natlan coastline, on the beach south of the Ancestral Temple. The Avatar rests looking east over the ocean. |
Location 8 |
The plateau south of the Ancestral Temple hides another Eroded Avatar of Lava, specifically on the western side just north of the elemental monument puzzle. |
Location 9 |
There are three tiers of plateau to the south of the “Scions of the Canopy” tribe. The Fluid Avatar of Lava is in the middle shaded yellow-green on the map. You’ll see a rock in the middle of the area surrounded by Condessence Crystal. To reveal the Avatar, destroy all the crystals and it will appear. |
Location 10 |
Just west of the Fluid Avatar hiding in a rock, on the lower of the three plateaus south of the “Scions of the Canopy” tribe is an Eroded Avatar of Lava sitting out in the open. |
Location 11 |
Starting at the Teleport Wayopint at the mouth of the Ameyalco Waters in the northernmost section of the Toyac Springs area, head up onto the small plateau with the jagged cut on its eastern side. You’ll find the last Eroded Avatar of Lava. |
How To Beat Avatars Of Lava
All Avatars of Lava are elite enemies, not bosses, so they only have a few attacks per version. You can avoid almost all of them simply by backing up out of their short range, as neither type of Avatar can move particularly quickly.
The Eroded Avatar’s attacks are:
- Two swings of their fists.
- A one-armed slam that sends out a line of Geo-element rocks.
- Throwing a Geo rock after raising its arm above its body.
The Fluid Avatar’s attacks are:
- Two swings of their fists.
- Sending out a barrage of lava balls
For defeating Avatars of Lava, you receive Ignited materials, which you’ll use to upgrade weapons for characters in Natlan, including those of Kinich.
